    Its certainly the best looking in red….. I had one for a week. The tech and the range is great. My only negative was the space between internal wheel arches in the boot. They restrict the width of the boot too much. It is definitely a BEV that should change people’s pre conceived ideas of BEVs.

      Did you choose the full red, or red with the black roof? The price of the black roof option shocked me in the configurator.

    The massive difference between the scenic and the model Y is the cost of the insurance! The model Y is almost twice as expensive. Plus, if your being picky…. you don’t need to pay anywhere near as much for the nice red paint on the Scenic.

      “Everyday’s a school day!” I had no idea about the insurance issue. Turns out a Model Y Long Range is insurance group 48! Almost the highest possible. That’s bonkers!

      @@Glassey12 True indeed. Plus the base Model Y is not “so fast”. Yes it’s nippy but not Group 48 nippy. It’s the most ridiculous group insurance and it has stopped me from buying one. Even my AMG was cheaper to insure than a Model Y… Bonkers!

    I hate comments like this but 40k! We shouldn’t really be buying cars for more than. 1/3 our salary. So you need 120k for a base Renault!? Mad times

    1. @wakeywarrior Avatar
      @wakeywarrior

      You can lease it for about 430 a month. You can then do over 300 miles for about £8 if charging at home.

    2. @Whatshisname346 Avatar
      @Whatshisname346

      So people making 60k should only buy cars costing 20K? That really doesn’t leave much choice does it. The more pressing question is should we need to buy new cars as often as we do? The fact that public transport and road safety for non-driving road users is so poor is indicative of a society that would rather people spend money on stupidly depreciating assets than investing in more efficient, healthy and potentially safer forms of transport. And then we can all drive cool old cars on the weekends for fun obviously.

    I’ve got one and done range tests, my latest being 280 miles on the M1, and also a near 600 miler up to Scotland. The range is fantastic, all for Model 3 RWD money.
    Note there’s not much difference between trims, the base model is fully loaded.
    6 year Tesla owner- I am certainly not regretting switching over, the car is fantastic.
    What often isn’t mentioned much is the chassis, it is just right between comfort and stiffness. No roll, very comfortable on long journeys as are the seats (I have the ‘base’ version). I’d disagree with the review there compared to most other cars of this type- try a Sportage which rolls and bounces around much more (my wife has one). I haven’t noticed the brake spongy either although I hardly use the brakes, I use full regen.
    Insurance is £450. They wanted £1100 for my Model 3 RWD this year.
    Renault are knocking it out of the park with this car, I can’t believe what a good job they did with it.

    My sister in law has the spec above this one and it’s lovely. The door handles pop out and very easy to use. Also has the Renault badge lit up on the ground. I would love one but above my budget.

    1. @wakeywarrior Avatar
      @wakeywarrior

      The one in the video is the top spec. Theres actually very little difference between the three, this top spec one has a few goodies. The middle one is identical to the entry level, save for trim differences and bigger wheels. The entry level is actually fully loaded, with very little not on it.

  9. @Whatshisname346 Avatar

    For me the SUV tag is a bit misleading. Having seen one in real life it’s actually quite low slung like a large hatchback; certainly looks better than the pictures.

    Overall I like where Renault are going with EVs. The French government has also created some really generous incentives for EV adoption so even if it’s not a runaway success elsewhere I think Renault has a pretty captive market at home.

    Also it’s nice to see a car just be a car, to prioritise comfort and ride quality over this ‘sporty’ nonsense which most everyday drivers will only be able to access 2% of the time and the other 98% they’ll wish they could drive across a potholes road without losing the fillings or parallel park without a personal trainer.

    1. @wakeywarrior Avatar
      @wakeywarrior

      It’s surprisingly small and lower on the outside than you think. We have a Sportage and it’s noticeably lower but just as big inside.

  10. @NBMBC40 Avatar
    @NBMBC40

    I have had mine a month now Esprit Alpine and have to say I’ve had no issues with the brake feel or inconsistency and it’s a company car so already done a fair few miles. I also find the ride very good and it’s no sports car but it’s not at all bad on twisty roads. One point you don’t mention is the kerb weight compared to other EV’s at around 1800Kg’s.

    Renault and France in general, are knocking it out of the park of late….Where Germany stumbles with it over complex, over-priced beasts, the French car industry is picking up the ball and running hard. Fantastic to see.!

      Hardly. No innovation or advancement here. Essentially the same offering as the Zoe from 12 years ago. Too little too late. They need to build on this and develop fast, not sit back and do nothing as they did with the Zoe. For too long western legacy manufacturers have relied on expensive luxury EVs with high margins. French car makers – Renault, Citroen, DS Automobiles, Alpine, Peugeot – have dramatically upped their game those last 10 years. Excellent quality built, superb design, great interiors, great tech, etc… I drive a Peugeot 3008, it’s the best car I ‘ve ever had.
    42.000 euro, but it feels like a 100.000 euro vehicle. The quality ride is just out of the world, quality built is bordering on luxury.

    After two test drives, I’ve noticed that an important issue is consistently missing from your reviews – the poor quality of the rear camera. It’s a crucial feature for many drivers, yet it seems to be overlooked. Why is this never addressed?

    The sunroof is either transparent (see-through) or translucent (lets through diffuse light). It is not opaque because opaque means it doesn’t let light through at all (like a metal roof).
