    Oh boi can’t wait for this one to also have the awful interior with 3 screens stuck to the dash when they make a new generation 😍

    A big song and dance being made about the prominent ledge now being covered in soft material but that is *only* standard on the range topping Black Edition, otherwise it remains unappealing plastic.

    Why is the screen so odd looking? Germans are getting it very wrong. It feels like the chief engineer had a visit to the Saturday market, and bought a cheap tablet then stuck it on the dash. The feel of plastic gave me shivers down the spine as well. Get a lexus instead

    I had 2 of the 3rd gen S3 and loved them. The 4th gen drop in quality put me off getting another; if I’m paying for premium, I want premium build quality.

    If not as good as the version that it replaces and cost more, it is no good

      Correct .
      The quality is going down and the South Korean car quality is going up. At some point soon, they will meet in the middle. The Kia/ Hyundai, will be at least £10,000 cheaper too !

    So basically if you want an A3, go get the 2019 model and you should be fine.

      Same with Golf, Mini etc. Mini interior truly awful compared to previous model.

    Amazing, long review namechecking loads of competitors but no comparison or even mention of its near twin, the Golf…

      for some reason audi v bmw v mercedes has always been the thing, VW are seen to be below the Audi in terms of quality, afterall they are the peoples wagon, but yes in every day terms, the SEAT and CUPRA leon aswell as the VW golf should all be in the same bracket in regards to the sizing of the cars and engine specs available!!

      @ this Audi’s quality is literally VW/Cupra level.

    What is the fascination amongst manufacturers for shiny gloss black plastic? Is it cheaper than matt surfaces?

    The Corolla is seriously compromised in rear seat accommodation and boot size, actually having less interior room for people and luggage than our 2016 Yaris.

      The 1.8L can fit 7 carry on suitcases if I remember correctly.

    What is the point of ‘dynamic indicators’? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    1. @barnoslogik Avatar
      @barnoslogik

      my understanding is its because a signal blinking orange light in bright sunlight isnt as obvious, whereas a dynamic indicator even on the brightest days is more visable, due to the nature of it moving left to right or right to left within the cluster.

      Now whether the Audi driver knows how to use the indicator is another matter!!! as they are almost as bad a BMW driver for not using them!!

    Audi should use their interior from 10 years ago and their front grille from 15 years ago (and no fake vents)

  15. @barnoslogik Avatar
    @barnoslogik

    decent looking car, though not as interesting as the CUPRA leon, which shares a lot of the same components, due to being a part of the VAG range.
    I do like the fact audi have listened and put the physical controls for aircon back in place.
    But the drinks holders directly under the armrest really, make that the space for the phone shelf, so even if using the armrest at full extension can still get it in and out, whereas if want to use the arm rest you lose the passenger/rear cup holder!! The drinks holders can then be in the more practical and correct left and right orientation in front of the gear selector. This also goes for the rear arm rest, why have front and rear drinks holders, should be left and right!!
    I swear some designers of family cars havent got families as small things like that can cause arguments over who drinks holder is whose!!

    Here in Belgium, there has been a drastic decline in Audi dealerships, with a further 3 closing this month, not promising for the future.

    Bravo for this review and, most importantly, for the honest words about the third-generation A3. Until now, I’ve never heard a reviewer express this level of sincerity regarding the decline in quality of this model. Most reviews focus only on screens and displays, ignoring overall quality, even though Audi publicly acknowledged this issue.

    Wait, this car was over £40K and it you still need to pay extra for rear seat pockets ? Given that VAG’s cost cutting drive has more to do with paying off those pesky diesel gate fines than anything else, it seems a bit of nerve to ask the customer to take the financial rap for their cheating by removing practical features that customers usually look for in cars like this. I wonder just how many ‘storage packs’ you have to sell to pay a 30 billion euro fine ? Great review as ever 😁
