    If MG run true to form from the past two years, this car will have 10k shaved off it at the dealer

      Spot on, the 30k MGS5 already hads over 8k off. Seen a few ex demos under 20k

      So pushing the list price over the £40k mark is just a dumb decision.

      @CoxJulyou would think MG would be on the ball with the UK luxury car tax but seems plenty of other manufacturers aren’t either. There’s a VW Tiguan for £40,550. Doubt they have sold one!!

      “Such toff” for “soft touch” works really well Nicki. BUT beware, you might be getting legal correspondence from Gavin at Ecotricity NZ (he may well have never used it… but it’s definitely ‘in the style of) 😄.

    Looks nice but too big for me. All that effort in battery design and it takes 38min 10-80. Slower than most of the competition.

    Big slip up crossing the £40k luxury car threshold

      Is starts as £38k. Right between the the “luxury” Skoda Enyaj &VW ID4. Luxury prices on this size vehicle aren’t what they used to be. Similar sized be from Mercedes, Aud & BMW start around £55k.

      Agreed.
      However, not really MGs fault but it’s ridiculous that a family MG is now sitting in the luxury car bracket for tax. This is long overdue a review

    That trophy version is not an extra £3k. It pushes it above £40 so over five years it’s much more in tax

    1. @dogsbodyish8403 Avatar
      @dogsbodyish8403

      Yes, it’s now over £5k more expensive, taking that into account. And it’s no good MG discounting them – it’s the list price which counts.

    This may be a fine car, I don’t know, but what I do know is that my neighbour’s MG has given him more trouble than enough. What with battery troubles and non-running issues it has been a regular visitor to both the AA and the main dealer. I have crossed MG off my list of possibles.

    Hi, could you include battery chemistry, insurance group, can you switch off the ADAS, is the drink the same on 2WD and 4WD?

    But why would you get this over the IM6?

    1. @wheresmycheese8511 Avatar
      @wheresmycheese8511

      Cheaper, no stupid door handles, similar range, better rear headroom and boot space, better warranty, opening sunroof, MG pilot custom button, no stupid key card or fob without functions, better regen, head up display, physical buttons etc etc

    Great if chilly review, thank you. When you do the comparison tests, please include something from the Smart #5 range which may be more expensive but I think is better value. In our household we need this sort of thing with 4WD and towing of >=2,000kgs. You might also look at mild off road – muddy fields rather than cross country rocky trail for the military. I agree the children do not deserve the comfortable back of the car here, but the boot is quite large or there is always a roof rack for them.

    At £620 a year to tax (will increase also)
    from years 2-6 it’s a deal breaker.

    Like most people have said, I think MG have got the pricing wrong. Maybe £40k for the dual motor and £37k for the LR.

    I must be getting old Nicki… I think the MGS6 looks quite handsome. IMO, it’ll look good in 5 years time. (Oops, it’s time for my afternoon nap).

    Will this one also drive itself onto roundabouts despite the brake being pressed, or continue revving to the limiter without any driver input?

  19. @Daniel-jm5hd Avatar

    Looks good but needs to be £2-3k cheaper. Sell the Trophy for £38k plus a bit for the red paint and it’s a winner.

    I got an MG4 and I have to say that it’s a great car. I hate SUVs and Crossovers but I am sure that will be a decent machine. In my experience the extra cost for the Trophy is absolutely worth it.
