However does it in fact feel special on the roadway? Is it comfy enough to justify the premium price? And can it really lure buyers away from SUVs, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz and even high-end executive vehicles?

      It certainly is!

This was filmed in Bilbao, Spain.

I think it will have some competition from the Xpeng X9, which will be fully specced and come with faster charging. The VLE does have some neat tricks to it though, like the roll-and-go seats.

Bjorn Nyland is currently testing the X9 and he is loving it.

X9 is like half price, Denza D9, Zeekr 009, Luxceed V9 and about a dozen others are all faster charging and half price

This is really competing with the Xpeng X9. Both are too wide for me.

That looks awesome. Shame that the price will mean I’ll never have one 😢😢

Beautiful vehicle. Electric long range, old Mercedes elegance and comfort. I will buy one as soon as I am back in Europe.

I enjoyed the review Nikki, but did I miss you getting into the rear seats, because from where you were sat at the back of the driving position, the seats behind you looked awfully pinched for space. You also said there will be a longer version next year, which will probably address that rear seating issue, even though I can’t understand why Mercedes would release two versions, one just 200mm longer than the other, how does that make financial sense. Oh and please Mercedes, get rid of that awful, cheap and outdated looking Bonnet Star, replace it with another LED Star, but do something. 🙂

Too heavy for most European licenses class B.

The interior or smaller than the old one due to the slight taper on the roof line at the back.

I like it but it’s super expensive for a family vehicle and seats can’t fold away.

1:05 nobody would buy it for kids 😉 it will be leased by executive transport companies. Our COO was flying from Boston to Heathrow twice a month, and had to take a S-class cab to Cambridge because she was COO. I can easily imagine this would be an even better car for Witch from the West. If there will be a seven seater version with an easy-to-clean (non-perforated) bench, this is a different story. but ofc, how to park this battleship on your local Waitrose car park?

Mercedes have responded to the new demand in the marketplace. Luxury “vans” are where all the footballers are going.
Personally, current fashions or not, I totally love this. S-Class is so old. This is where the luxury and practicality cross over.

Whilst the Kia EV9 is nice, the Mercedes VLE is proper quality.

“Mercedes VLE has no rivals” 🤣Xpeng X9 (a better EV MPV for lower price) is now available and delivering EVs to customers in 7 European countries. Probablly all UK and EU by before VLE starts customer deliveries! Can’t wait for Xpeng to take all Mercedes customers! 🤣

And it’s got about two dozen rivals in China including Zeekr 009, Denza D9, BYD Xia, Geely V900, Chery Luxceed V9, GAC M8, Voyah Dream GAC M8, SAIC Mifa9, Li Mega etc

I kinda wish more Chinese brands offered MPVs in Europe. Geely has the Zeekr 009 and Volvo EM90, MG could sell rebadges of the electric Maxus MPVs, and so on.

I’ve been watching videosof the Xpeng X9. It is very similar to this Merc. The Xpeng has 400kW charging too.

Personally, I think this new Merc design language works better on this van. The iScreen Pro Max dash, the 7 Series TV screen, over-the-top ambient lighting, etc. all works well on this. I think it’s the perfect vehicle for VIP chauffeurs, rich soccer moms, etc. It works.

Nah, I would take the Xpeng X9. It charges with over 500 kW. Best van currently.

Had the V-Class Diesel and it was the most comfortable passenger car for long travels, we loved it. The VLE looks amazing keeping up to the standards – and to the distance to the competitors

great car, but will have a hard time with this price…. xpeng x9, zeekr 009, Geely v900… there are plenty cheaper and better options….
