    I don’t get why this is needed. I’ve never had a problem turning a steering wheel and every car now has power steering

      People with disabilities which cannot turn an old school steering wheel with their arms need this.

      Its massively easier to manufacture especially between left and right drive markets. in a crash you don’t get a steering column through into the cabin. Needs a 48v system though

    No maam, it was the lexus doing that first time

      Toyota you mean. Lexus is just a plush Toyota after all.
      Steer by wire had been around in F1 for a decade now.

    It only works if there is power ie the battery is not flat

      It’s the 12V battery that controls it. If your 12V battery is flat, then how and why would you move the car? I don’t say that we need it, but don’t blame EVs for everything

      And an ICE car will only work if there is petrol in the tank.
      What a pointless comment.

      Don’t worry about that, you are not going anywhere I’d the battery is flat

      Much like the steering in my car only works if there is diesel in the tank.

    Do you get feedback from the wheels in a steer by wire car ?

    1. @eloimartinez9446 Avatar
      @eloimartinez9446

      Yes, it has a motor to send feedback

    I love the usual steering wheel! No yoke, never!😢

    1. @chrishar110 Avatar
      @chrishar110

      You never turn the yoke. It needs only 180 degrees to turn from one side to the other. Your right hand goes from 3 to 12 to turn left and from 3 to 6 to turn right. That’s it. Stay with your 4 turns steering wheel to make 5 minutes for a u turn at a tight spot.

      @chrishar110no, but why not taking a normal steering wheel and put the steer by wire technology on top of that?! 😮😢🎉😅

    If something goes wrong, it would be impossible to steer the car…

      That’s why there is a redundancy, exactly the same as in an aircraft which is unsurprisingly steer by wire also

    Literally, what is the point?

  8. @philgb5 Avatar
    @philgb5

    I want a car with a real steering wheel, buttons, wing mirrors, a rear view mirror and a manual gearbox.

    I’ve driven the cyber truck steering is laggy. This will be bad.

    I don’t understand why it has taken so long to implement this technology.

    This technology was available on various Infiniti cars more than ten years ago!!!!

    I know technology is very reliable nowadays, specially by Mercedes-Benz, but I find this steer-by-wire innovation a little scary… what if it malfunctions at high speed? 😨
    But I got to admit it seems very practical… being able to lock the wheels side to side without turning the steering wheel two and half times got to be very comfortable.

    Infiniti launch this in 2014 with the Q50 and it was an unmitigated disaster. They had to recall it because the ratio was too quick and people were spinning off the road

    No yoke. Even the Tesla moron understood that feedback.
    Other than that steer by wire is fine with me.
    Airplanes have it for decades and it’s proper safe.

    The yoke won’t make it to production. It’s been banned in china as it affects the way the airbag protects the driver when it goes off. The round steering wheel supports the airbag when it goes off.
