Could this be good news for the new Nissan leaf ?

Aren’t they building a battery plant next door? Sounds like a good thing if our grid is green enough, but the grant might end before the Leaf goes on sale

Not necessarily a bad idea to match the incentive to the emissions of manufacture, and help UK/European manufacturers compete. But why on earth announce it before its finished 🙈

And the electric Range Rover is delayed again, coming next year again in the best JLR style. I suspect they saw the prototype EV Cayenne can tow 3500kg and remembered they promised they’d not launch a Land Rover EV until it could tow 3500kg like the ICE cars (then the launched the hybrids that can’t anyway)

If VW starts building EVs in Spain then that will also qualify, Spains grid has a lot of solar power. Cupra looking good there.

@@MaticTheProto the VW ID3 is made in the Zwickau-Mosel Plant and the Transparent Factory in Dresden according to the Volkswagen newsletter. There is parallel production in China for that market. The other two VAG cars that might qualify are the CUPRA Born also made at Zwickau and the Skoda Elroq, manufactured at Skoda’s main plant in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. The other MEB car that might qualify on price is Ford’s Puma built at the Otosan assembly plant in Craiova, Romania. Utilising electric propulsion units built at Ford’s Halewood plant in the UK

This is only a small one, but what do you think about Jeep removing the heat pump as standard on the newer Avenger models, it’s now a £500 option. Is that really a big deal for our UK weather climates? Is heat pumps from the Stellantis group even worth it to begin with?

I’ve got the fiat 600e which is basically the Avengers twin shares about 80% of the car… i got the heat pump as standard in mine (top spec) and for me I think it’s worth it but that’s because I don’t have a home charger and I’d only recommend them for people who don’t have chargers at home if they are an extra expense… in the winter it has helped when comparing to my last Ev which didn’t have a heat pump but if I had a charger at home I wouldn’t pay for it …. The little extra it helps for those without a charger at home is really the only time I’d recommend them

It’s a bit cheeky. But heat pumps don’t make much of a difference in this country tbh.

Electric classic cars from wales build AMAZING EV conversions with fast CCS charging and good range. If you could do a video with them that would be great. Yeah its not a new car but a Mercedes 190SL as an electric car would look soooooo good on the chanel. Pls 🙏🏽

You gotta give it to Tom! I learnt to drive as a teen in a friends 1970’s Land Rover he painted it purple and it had go fast flames down the side and a painting of ‘Mutley’ on both side doors…. The gear stick was taller than me and I had to stand up to put all my weight into the clutch but it was fun he now owns one of the few land rover parts garage in the U.K. and has many of them including carcasses myself I’ve moved to Ev and refuse gear sticks and clutches as I think it scarred me as a teen into auto only lol … give it to Tom!

The Audi A2 would be a perfect care to ‘rebuild’/convert to an EV. The aluminium space frame makes it idea. Hint, I own one (my daily driver) with 225,000 miles on the odometer 🙂

Please, please could we get a video on charger installations! I’d love to consider an EV, but living in a flat means an installation looks problematic and the cost and availability of public charging (especially here in the Highlands) is a major barrier. I’m especially irritated about not being able to enjoy the cheap domestic rates. I’d love to see real life scenarios where folks find innovative solutions to problematic installations, pavement channels and getting local authorities to fit lamp post chargers.

Could you discuss these 2 points next week? Instead of these grants. Mandate long “full car” warranties for UK built EV’s is a better answer. The aim is to get private buyers to purchase EV’s. There are 2 fears, expensive car failures and depression/resale (which is an extension of the first point) Lexus/Toyota and MG already offer 10 years so why can’t Vauxhall etc. On charging, I’d love to see a small removable section of the battery that can be charged in a flat at night. Some e motorbikes and small cars already have this but it’s their only battery. Imagine a 5kw removable battery on each side of the car that will discharge in to a 40/50kw car main battery when installed in to the car. You could add 5 or 10 KW over night giving 20-40 miles from a 3 pin plug in a studio flat. This is more than enough for a huge portion of drivers in the UK and allows then cheap over night home charging. Could still have the 40/50 KW battery rapid charged for the once a year holiday trip.

I got to drive my first EV this week, I took out a smart #1, I was really impressed with the drive, all the bells and whistles it had, including the HUD, which I thought would be a gimmick, but no… It is brilliant.

Alas it was a little too small for me, so I will continue to look at other vehicles, but may loop back to it if I can’t find anything suitable. The hunt for my EV is officially on.

Mentioning great dealerships, Smart/Mercedes Stevenage spent ages with me, no rushing, no heavy sales, and understood I was in the market for an EV, and when the smart was not quite right (though it is an amazing car) they only showed me other EVs as alternatives. No push towards petrol or diesel.

      @Finglebat

@@MaticTheProto Thanks for the suggestion. I had a look at that but the roofline is too low for me, that was why I tried the #1 as it was higher. I plan to give the citroën EC3 and EC4 next, though seeing the interior of the smart, I am not sure they will impress me.

I am waiting for my Renault dealership near me to get a 4 in and I will look at the Kia EV3 and Skoda Elroq too. Tempted to wait for the Epic and EV2 and maybe the Firefly.

@@Finglebatunderstandable. The firefly appears to me as a very practical but somehow also very bland car
