If you have a car purchasing concern or wish to be included in our postbag, include your remark below or message us at podcast@electrifying.com.

Each week, the Electrifying.com meet online to talk about all the concerns at hand. Such as the weather, what we're all having for our tea and who dumped who in last night's Love Island. In between these heavyweight topics, we also speak about electrical cars. A lot. Most likely an unhealthy total up to be truthful.

And when we do discuss cars, we discover a lot. From market gossip to the more mundane usefulness of electrical car ownership, it's the place where we dish the dirt on the automobiles we have actually been driving and deliver our own verdicts on the latest electrical car news. We also like to have a great make fun of the daftest littles anti-electric news that we have actually seen in the press.

We can't guarantee that you'll discover much. You probably won't. However if you expensive thirty minutes of idle chat and chatter about the world of electric automobiles, we're here for you. If you like it/ hate it/ think it's too long or too brief, let us know.

Go on then Tom, get your journalism hat on and go and speak to Lotus and KEF about what is involved in treating a great sound system in a car

You guys rock and are most deserving of most wider audience. Nicola was so genuine, natural and hilarious on the Kia EV6 GT review it’s definitely most watch worthy. Liked, subscribed and shared!

Australian BYD Atto3 owner here. Brake lights definitely come on when sitting on regen down a long hill. Same happened for my work’s Hyundai Kona.
Makes sense for having that it place, to be honest.

Tom echoes my own findings exactlty: Own an EV for more than four years and have `priceless`charging at ANY time – day or night – and it ONLY comes down to speed of charging IF that may be restricted by the tariff. I went for a 7.4 KW/h wallbox even when I had only a PHEV. Now full EV its a no-brainer….
FWIW FAR more important is peak charging speed on a `fast` charger (and the cars peak charging rate) – Its the main reason I will replace my E208 cos I cant get more than 60kw/hr locally – admittedly havent looked at charging rates on all chargers in my area. I get 7.4kw/hr at work, so that makes maths simpler too!

My MeganE Etech has 4 regen levels with paddles. The brake lights come on under regen braking on levels 3 and 4.

I used to own a 2013 diesel Mazda 6 estate and when I bought it, the front Bose speakers(which provide the bass)were blown.

As it was a used car, I got the money back from the dealer for the cost of repair or replacement and brought it to an audio specialist.

They told me that Bose & Mazda haggle over the cheapest possible speaker that Bose would be willing to attach their tuner system to, so the consumer usually ends up with a really cheap speaker which can’t handle the system and blow really easily.

He’d seen quite a few Mazda’s with the same issue and they had used a really cheap(unbranded)Sony speaker but stuck the Bose badge cover on top.

He was able to repair the speakers and did a far better job than the manufacturer actually had done to begin with.

Be glad you were only “mentioned in meetings”. I bet there were discussions along the lines of “That woman is never coming to a Ford launch ever again!!” 🙂

I thought the intro was – ” Welcome to the pick and pock of peckled peppers..” btw…I was at Insurance college with Steve Fowler in the late 80’s

Like Steve Fowler, I also take a music track to test the car audio. It’s an uncompressed WAV file of the London Show Choir with a 31 piece orchestra at Abbey Road. The Kia Soul’s sound system was like being back in the studio. The EV3 is good, but not the same level.

Getting a proper charger will often allow you access to intelligent tariffs which provide cheap electricity windows for the whole house (on top of the cheap overnight rate). I’ve seen my electricity bills drop even with the increased use from charging an EV

There’s also a Rivan pickup on the fleet of the local building contractors and property developers where I live in Wiltshire.

Adding to your regen braking brake lights discussion: the Citroen EC3 eManual pdf I was sent by my dealer in March says the following –

    Regenerative braking

With the mode C and when decelerating

The mode C emulates engine braking, slowing
the vehicle with no need to depress the brake
pedal. The vehicle slows more quickly when the
    driver releases the accelerator pedal.
The energy recovered when the accelerator
pedal is released is then used to partially
    recharge the traction battery, thereby
    increasing the vehicle’s driving range.

    The resulting deceleration of the

vehicle does not cause the brake
    lamps to come on.

OK what they say about the C pedal being ON = regen braking isn’t right, as it is in regen mode at start with the C button off. I am unable to see the brake lights myself but does anyone knows who has an EC3?

Also what about the pedestrian warning noise that comes on cars like BYD? Mine doesn’t seem to make any noise at slow speed? Is that OK?

On a steep hill, our Ioniq 5 does put the brake light on. If it’s a gentle hill, they don’t come on. Our Ioniq 5 seems to put the brake lights on when the regen is putting more than about 10kW into the battery.

In Nicola’s defence (😂) the Grandland does still do that rocky thing occasionally. It’s the auto hold system having a mare. Use the handbrake and it’s fine.

Also, it transpires the HUD disappearing in hot weather thing is actually mentioned in the manual…it’s a feature, not a bug 😂

Honestly, if you’d told me 20 years ago that Hyundai and Kia would be selling cars for £50-90K, I would’ve been on the floor laughing. Back then, they were budget brands — now they’re going toe-to-toe with the likes of BMW, Audi and Merc, and in some cases actually outperforming them. Meanwhile, the Germans keep cutting corners and charging extra for every tiny add-on. Yeah, car prices in general are a bit mad right now, but to be fair, Kia and Hyundai are probably bang on with what they’re charging for their top-end stuff.

You can always get a 32A Commando socket installed and use a 32A charger. The Tesla granny charger will take 13A, 16A and 32A plugs. A dedicated charger does have advantages, though.
