Interesting topics today gents, the Kia and the Skoda I can’t wait and I agree with Tom yes I like the Skoda but the Kia for me wins due to the fact of V to L, then as for electric tariffs I have a EV but also a 12kw battery and that charges during the octopus go scheduled when I looked at all of them there was only octopus that fascinated that at the cheap rate, now Musk topic yes I use his chargers but that’s it the cars are bland with no creature comforts like a well padded seats the Tesla remind me of the hard plastic seats we had at school you end up arse ache.keep up the good work Alan

I think we need more people deep diving in to selecting the best electricity tariffs. Last time I looked it got tricky as myself and my wife work from home a lot and have 2 electric vehicles so you would think a cheap night tariff would be a no brainer? But then you look at peak rates, standing charges and things become harder to work out. We ended up going for a competitive standard tariff as only one car would be charging at night, depending on who had to use their car the next day, but this may not be a sensible way to go.

Mike, when your dad’s insurance renewal comes through, get him to call Admiral to adjust the value of the car for depreciation as they don’t do it automatically and seem to hide the figure in the renewal paperwork. Got fed up of the games and moved to a different insurer this year.

As an MG4 owner I’d agree with the point that they aren’t that characterful but, the cost does outweigh the issue of sparkling personality. However, I’ll admit that I am in the fortunate position to be able to get my driving thrills in a 911 – parking the two next to each other on my drive often leads to interesting conversations with passers by. The double takes I used to get when I parked my previous EV (eUP!) next to the 911 was hilarious!

Heard a lot of negative press on MG reliability. Personally I liked the MG5 and nearly got one. Have you had software issues or strange vibrations etc

@ nope nothing at all. Averaging 4.1/ 4.2 m/kW. Only negative is the psychotic lane keep assist but, I always switch it off as part of my predrive ritual.

Should you review Teslas? Absolutely; do I have one? Yes; am I going to get rid of it? ASAP – unfortunately he has made the brand toxic.

As suggested. Preventing a washer bottle from freezing is pretty easy. Simple increase the concentration of the fluid is the way do to it.

I don’t believe that so much should be awarded by Euro N Cap for ADAS systems. It’s much better to encourage manufacturers to spend money on the building cars that can survive a crash while protecting the occupants, rather than awarding manufacturers points for ADAS systems, which will in all likelihood be turned off.

I turn of LKA the moment I get in the car.

We have EON Next Drive; I simply rang the company and told it that I had an ev and it switched my tariff without any further enquiry. Charging between 24.00 and 07.00. costs 6.9p per kWh and 30p at all other times. We are fortunate to have a garage with a charge point in it.

Unwritten rule of courtesy cards is that they should only be filled with fumes !
My lease deal has pcik up and drop offs for annual service included, god knows what I will end up with as a courtesy car !

MAbe NCAP has to adapt ie have a key score for those ‘essential’ safety systems and crash protection and then have a separate score for the bolt on options as a bit unfair on the smaller end of the market.

The Chevy Bolt came to Europe (but not the UK) as the Opel Ampera-e. As for Elon, we nearly bought a Tesĺa last year until we realised how much the insurance would be. Could not buy one now.

Hya KHH boys. Good to see you both. 👍
The Chinese EV’s that hit the Dutch market the last few months are way better than ever expected, specially for the prices.
BYD’s with a starting price from €33k is still to expensive, but the Chinese are coming in at €23.500 and are shooting the EU competition out the water with ease.
Tesla was to expansive, but even when it was below €25k, i would rather go back to ICE, befor we buy brainchilds from that maniac.
We rather buy a Chinese EV than from the worlds most dangerous wannabe dictator.

I think Ncap should consider having two sections. The essential section for crashworthiness and essential safety items such as ABS. Then the ‘wish list’ items that people may not want such as the dreaded lane keep assist. They should definitely quantify how well and seamlessly these things work as well and mark a car down if it interferes too much.

Your piece on heated windshield jets is interesting. Here in Canada our washer fluid goes down to -30 deg C (some even = 45), it’s simply not an issue here at all.

I recently got quotes for a Polestar with the dual motor and three years old. £440 at age 62. I was shocked at how low the quote was for such a fast accelerating vehicle. I do drive like a vicar these days though
