Today we're trying a little automobile with a concept. It takes up less space than an Ami, is being sold by Nissan and you can go from an empty battery to 100% charged in less than a minute. Yes truly.

Silence is an electrical scooter maker which formerly had a handle SEAT. However they were a bit gazumped by Nissan, who can be found in and scooped up an agreement to offer these through dealers throughout Europe.

Car makers are scrapping to get their hands on this little vehicle because it has innovative battery-swapping technology.

The idea of having the ability to secure a dead battery and put in a new one is not brand-new– Tesla even attempted it on the Model S when it was first released. But Silence already has a network of swap stations in Spain due to the fact that it's utilized for its scooters. Changing them takes about 30 seconds– and this vehicle can take a couple of.

Been watching this one for a long time but unfortunately the price is too high but I understand why that is

Sakura EV is probably next best if not the best from Nissan

Whole heartedly agree and second hand (£7800) with low mileage (6340 km) a steal. Been driving mine for just over a month now 4.7 m/ kWh. Four seats and plenty of room for all. Reasonable boot space too…made larger by sliding passenger seats. I’m based in Japan but would recommend looking at importing. Plenty of companies offer second hand Sakuras.

These will surely have to be heavily discounted to sell when you can get a Dacia Spring for around £10k… (Or a used e-Niro with 280+ miles range for about the same).

The S04 ticked a lot of boxes for what I was after – battery swapping, size, the simplicity, acceptable top speed. But it massively failed on price. I was really disappointed at how high the price had reached by the time it arrived in the UK. If it was half the price it could revolutionise our streets but at the price it is at I will only be a rich person’s toy.

Yep, was my thought too, besides perfect form factor and implementation, but was consistently priced out by a too low targeted production rate, and then not worth the price for that low battery capacity anymore. With Seat/VW in the group, I couldn’t understand that, except that they didn’t want total success from the start, and just didn’t want to compete with their own in-house cars.

This has potential and I could definitely use something like it, as someone with no driveway and a 10 mile commute it makes perfect sense. I can see them becoming popular with motorhome owners as well. Nissan could put battery swap stations in their dealerships. The price is a sticking point though.

I have seen these a while ago…. The issue is the price…. It is just too much , when you can buy a real BEV for the same money.

It is an interesting vehicle, even with the caveats mentioned in this video, but I would be very curious to see how it would work in a place like the province of Québec where I live.

I love your reviews on Electrifying. Also, that ‘car’ could have potential but wow, the price. No chance.

I imagine European cities will be full of these soon. Maybe town councils should provide free parking specifically for vehicles of this type, size & shape.

I’m not sure I’d buy one of these, but these would be great for a car leasing/sharing scheme. Ie. You pay for the time in the car. Like the electric scooters but more useful.

battery fires in flats/houses are increasingly common from electric bikes and skate boards – they are particularly intense due to the chemicals involved and if you have this in your hallway it blocks your route out of the house – plenty of videos on youtube showing real incidents – be very careful!

I’d be very cautious about where and how I charged one of these packs. It’s one thing to have fixed storage charging in your house, but these packs could and will get bounced around in the car and bumped when being wheeled around. The damage you can’t see is the potential problem.
I’m a 6 year EV driver… and would never go back to ICE. But charging these mobile packs in my house would give me concern. Are the NCM or LFP?

I’m intrigued, Nikki. I might be tempted to have one for running errands around town, but I I’d probably opt for a MIcrolino instead, since I hear it can now come with A/C.

Would be great in a city like Barcelona, solar panel on the roof would be handy. Knock 5 grand off that price and they could be onto a winner,. Self drive taxis, like hiring an e-bike could also work, pay by the km/mile.

I can guarantee that any business you work for would not allow you to charge up a largish lithium ion battery at work on safety and insurance grounds.
I’ve got a smart for two petrol. A very small town car with no compromises to be made and it’s a proper car, not a quadricycle. 2018 with 35k miles on it, cost me £5500. Love it !

Love it….everything apart from the price so no I don’t see anyone buying it….maybe a City based car sharing company ?

The biggest problem is that parking is so expensive in a city. In my city a regular parking space near my flat costs $300 per month.
