Excellent overview. A lot of the current drivers don’t like it and it remains to be seen if the true fans like it. Only time will tell,

As if you couldn’t make F1 even more BORING….🥱

If you want interesting races, just watch FE 😂

When was F1 only about driving flat out ? They always had to manage fuel consumption or tyre wear.

Exactly. I’m a huge fan of EVs but this change has been mismanaged and is likely to do more harm than good.

Oh ffs I thought the whole point of Formula E was to give electric power a SEPARATE place to exist, not to also infect regular F1?! What’s next, NASCAR going electric too??

      Hopefully electric Nascar, sure!

@garage6346 Yeah actually on second thought that would be interesting, especially as a NASCAR race usually has more laps (not sure about total distance though?). I just feel a bit sad about the inevitable gradual, slow demise of combustion engine racing. Part of the appeal isn’t just the racing, it’s the sounds that come with it too. Like the iconic V8 and V10 eras of F1. The TV really doesn’t do it justice as I found out when I went to my first race, you could hear the cars miles before you even entered the grounds.

@DavidStruveDesignsYeah, well, Sound is exactly the reason I only go to electric races 😉

F1, and all racing really, has been about how to manage the power the vehicles have in a way that beats the competition to the line. This dramatic change however will be unsettling to the competitors and the fans alike. Racing both low power MX-5s and even slower one-design sailboats can be exciting and dramatic for the participants but neither brings in hundred million dollar sponsors or global television contracts. New F1 rules are too far out in front of the public. Right direction but they jumped the start.

Bring back the old days. The roar of the engines, combined with the skill needed to keep the car on track
