Well the Portuguese summer kill battery… Not…
My 5 year old ID.3 doesn’t have pre conditioning of the battery π’
You need a heat pump for pre-conditioning.
β@markevans5892yeah I know. They were an optional extra which the previous owners didn’t pay for
Find the mileage is less in the winter it’s not zero ! My Peugeot 3008 does 260-280 at 0-3c ππand that’s with the air con on minimum to keep the windows clear ! Have it on eco but so not a problem π€π ! Mxx
Very valid points I enjoy evs technology but you didn’t address the range issue which kind of glosses over a lot of people’s uneducated fears
and the new generation of batteries will be better so that all those advantages will no longer be relevant
Defrosting the car of all ice is one of the most underrated features of evs imho.
Yes the range is reduced but I’m still getting over 4.4 mpkwh on my 2020 Kona and a range of over 200 miles from 80% and I’ve not had to scrape ice or get into a cold car !
To be fair, preconditioning has been butchered in many cars up until recently.
Regardless, I think Norway is hard evidence that EVs are perfectly fine for winters. They come with perks and drawbacks vs ICE cars, and people just need to know what makes sense all factors considered. Too many make the whole decision based on range alone.
There is no winter in UK
this is the best ski season for years in Scotland. Cairngorm is especially busy.
True. Greetings from πΈπͺπ
Don’t tell everyone they will want one. I like 2nd hand prices as they are LOL
Agree that petrol and diesel cars suffer from reduced mpg in the cold weather but this makes the refill/recharge time more important.
For most people changing to an EV is just a mindset change but the recent 3p per mile tax has probably turned off a lot of people, like me, who were starting to think about switching to electric.
Yep, that’s one thing that really annoyed me since I bought an EV. So much so that I might just get a chepo petrol and a motorbike next time round.
3p per mile, may or may not happen, but whatβs to stop the government putting it on hybrids, petrol and diesel cars π€
Yes, the proposed 3p per mile tax isn’t good or fair, but… if you can charge at home on a cheap tariff e.g.7p per KwH, it’s still much cheaper driving than ICE.
Did you know that with a petrol car you are running at 6p per mile in fuel duty, so with an EV you are still quids in.
Doesn’t look very cold though… My car actuall still ran ok, with some careful handling, in under minus 40 Celsius and it was a diesel. Not all cars did.
I own 2 electric vehicles and I largely have to say they do kill the range trying to use them for anything more than driving. Come on. π
Excellent info I have a Nissan townstar EV and Iβm delighted with it kind regards and take care Mark from Billericay ππππ
Love this presenter.
Just come to munich. I go the Alps with the EV. So long as charging infrastructure is continuing to improve, range becomes less of an issue. Cost maybe is.
So Nicola tells us EV’s are great in the winter, yet she’s wearing a winter coat, gloves and a hat while dring in het EV (probably to save range to make it home). ICE drivers will just turn op the heat a notch or two and it won’t cost a penny.
Not really any need to preheat a battery in the UK, doesnβt get cold enough. Really like to warm the cabin turn on the heated seats and heated steering wheel and de-ice the car while sitting inside with another cup of tea.π
I had Audi’s and BMW’s all diesel before. And now for last 3 years a Tesla and for winter it is a gem. Warm in a second compared to 5 min before. I just love it.
Ev,s cars are totally Rubbish As I had driven Ev for almost 3 year since 2023 Until 2026
