New BMW X7: A Range Rover beater?

Satisfy the heavily modified BMW X7!

It might just be a mid-life facelift, however the X7 has actually gone through a number of huge changes to help separate it from its predecessor! But what exactly has altered?

Well for starters, there are a variety of updates to the exterior. Around the back, there's a new tail light design and a brand-new bumper, and since we've got our hands on the edition, it also features quad tailpipes! There are a number of updates at the front, too, with a new headlight design and bumper. And like with any , it also comes geared up with an enormous grille!

On the inside, the X7 is covered in top quality materials. This updated edition also includes a brand-new infotainment display screen and system, the like discovered in the most recent iX. There's likewise an upgraded centre console style, and the M60i has a number of M style features, consisting of an M wheel and M colours on the seat belts.

When it comes to engines, the entry-level and truck features either a 3-litre straight-six turbo fuel or diesel, which can deliver 352hp or 381hp respectively. Nevertheless, it's possible to go much bigger, with the range-topper being a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that puts down 530hp!

The entry-level X7 starts from around ₤ 85,000, but if you want to choose the V8-powered M60i, you'll need to pay at least ₤ 115,000! However is it worth it? You'll need to stick to Mat and see for yourself!

@Imran Ali  you don’t know how to treat these cars, so don’t try. If you treat them right, they will ALWAYS be reliable, otherwise why bother owning one? And if you see any sign of needing service or maintenance instantly take it, or it will malfunction and start to be unreliable

I recently got an x5 and I realised how wide it is when trying to park in car parks in the UK. I have a feeling this would be even harder to park. I’d be leaving it on double yellows all the time lol

    4. Stop Media Fakery Avatar
      Stop Media Fakery

@Big duphus AJ I don’t know, it’s difficult to be sure. Other testers have beaten some of his times with other cars. His is set to 0-60 rather than 0-62 which makes a slight difference. BMW understate the HP and sprint times, there’s even another video on this channel recently showing that to be the case with HP.

    5. Big duphus AJ Avatar
      Big duphus AJ

@Stop Media Fakery modern dynos aren’t even close to accurate. Steve Morris spoke about how much more accurate older dynos were that relied on mechanical parts more than algorithms. Stick any production car on an older dyno and the figure will be a fair bit less. He thinks the dynos can be off or different as much as 300bhp on his big 5000bhp lumps. The times at santa pod for the cars Mat has on here are always slower. TurboS for example does not do a 10.2 or 10.4sec, they come in at 10.8 fastest stock with better tyres on. Even remapped with an exhaust they don’t do 10.4sec see Cleetus for proof. Cleetus obviously being much better drag racer than Mat too.

such a good review as always. i’ve driven bmw’s for several decades now, and i’m sad to see them return to using iDrive for common settings (heat/ac, cruise distance, etc.). i test drove the new 760 and found the control experience to be similar to the early days of iDrive – where you needed to go hunting for the most basic controls. call me old (which i am!) but I love and will always want physical buttons for frequently accessed controls. when i launched the new climate menu, i found it very overwhelming. would i get used to it? of course. but one of the most important lessons i’ve learned in life is to keep the simple things simple!

    1. rey Avatar
      rey

@Aleksandar Ankov dont think anyone prefers it over physical buttons, probably cheaper to build it into the screen :/

Bmw are the worst cars you can buy and that’s coming from a mechanic. Try another brand as they have got even worse recently. The very most recent stuff is so unreliable it beggars belief

People say they don’t like this design, I really really like it. I hope they keep the old design for the 5 series and X5. But for the 7 series and x7 this makes much more sense.looks Way more up market as it should be and not just a bigger x5.

X7 is amazing, even the 40i version hustles, and with no 3rd row option on the new X5 builds it’s the only 7 seater from BMW. The new iDrive layout is complicated because of a lack of buttons but the excellent voice recognition means you can just say “Hello BMW” to access most of the functionality.

  19. rAkon Avatar
    rAkon

Good review, i dont really like the split headlights not on the x7 and the 7. The big screens on the inside are a no for me , to bad that they do it on all the models now 😕. physical buttons are in some ways just better, climate etc.
