Here we go BMW fans, this is the one you've been awaiting … BMW M5 GENERATIONS DRAG RACE!!
We have actually got every generation of BMW M5, from the original E28 through to the F90, and we will learn just how much the BMW M5 has actually come along considering that it initially rolled off the production line.
So let's see how they all compare. Starting with the E28, it's powered by a 3.5-litre naturally-aspirated straight-six that can provide 286hp and 340Nm of torque. This power is sent out to the rear wheels through a 5-speed handbook. Taking on it we have the E34, which houses a 3.8-litre naturally-aspirated straight-six that can put down 340hp and 400Nm of torque. And much like the E28, power is sent out to the rear wheels via a 5-speed handbook gearbox.
Next up we have the E39, which is housing a 5-litre naturally-aspirated V8 under the bonnet! As a result, it's method up on power compared to the E34, putting down 400hp and 500Nm. Nevertheless, it still only comes with a 6-speed handbook transmission, and of course, power is sent out to the rear wheels just.
Together with this though we have the marvelous E60, which comes equipped with an extraordinary 5-litre naturally-aspirated V10! This beast can put down 507hp and 520Nm of torque, with all that power being sent out to the rear wheels through a 7-speed robotised manual transmission.
For the final 2 cars, we're changing up to dual-clutch automated transmissions. Beginning with the F10, it's powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that sends out all its power to the rear wheels. However, the latest generation, the F90, is not just up on power (with 625hp and 750Nm), but it likewise comes geared up with 4×4!
So will the F90 tidy up versus the opposition? Or could we have an upset on our hands? There's only one method to find out … LET'S RACE!
