New 3 Series revealed! Did BMW just fix EVERYTHING?

Is the brand-new BMW 3 Series an outright game-changer?!

Check out new and pre-owned automobile deals with Carwow:

Meet the brand new BMW 3 Series!

Mat's flown over to Germany for his chance to get hands-on with the new 3 Series and all-electric BMW i3.

So the question is, just how various is the all-electric i3 compared to the petrol-powered 3 Series? And if you're in the market for one of these freshly launched exports, which should you go for? Let's take a closer look …

From the outdoors, the 2 variations look almost identical. In advance, both vehicles have the Neue Klasse-inspired front end, which includes a kidney grille style flanked on either side by thin headlights. In M350 guise, there are optional yellow DRLs as well, combined with a sportier lower bumper. Both cars and trucks look practically identical from the side, while around the back, the M350 includes a small bootleg spoiler, a phony diffuser, and a set of quad tailpipes – and they're all real!

However, while the 2 cars and trucks may look the exact same, under the skin they're absolutely various! The i3 was developed on a brand new dedicated platform; the petrol-powered 3 Series's chassis is based on that of the previous version.

The similarities likewise continue on the inside. Both cars and trucks have the very same large infotainment screen in the centre of the dash, which comes with BMW's latest infotainment system. There are soft-touch, premium materials throughout the cabin, and the M350 edition we have here includes a sports steering wheel and sports seats. Both the i3 and 3 Series likewise have BMW's brand new Breathtaking Vision system, with statistics extending across the length of the windscreen. There's also the choice to include a head-up display screen, but offered all the stats you require are in the Scenic Vision system, you probably do not require it.

In terms of the 3 Series, the entry-level vehicle that we'll see in the UK is fitted with the 320 engine – a 2-litre turbocharged fuel engine with 211hp and 330Nm. The range-topping M350 includes the B58 engine – a 3-litre turbocharged straight-six with an unbelievable 443hp and 580Nm! That's 50hp more than the previous edition! There will also be a plug-in hybrid automobile in the future, and BMW has validated there'll be no diesel!

When it comes to the i3, the entry-level will include a single motor that produces 170hp and 250Nm. There are other versions throughout the range, with the top-line model being the i3 50 xDrive – a dual-motor, AWD edition that produces 469hp and 645Nm!

The brand-new BMW 3 Series starts from ₤ 44,975, with the rate increasing to ₤ 66,785 for the M350. So is it worth it? And more importantly, would you choose the i3 over the 3 Series? Let us understand in the comments!

    Make a screenshot of how people are ranting now vs. when the new generation comes out in 7 years.
    Can’t wait for the “we had it so good”. “It actually grew on me”. “the G50 was the last best 3 series” comments.

      😂 its not going to go down the way you think.
      We still prefer normal aspirated engines vs turbo charged engines and this is 12 years after the F80.
      And G80 is still not easy on the eyes and ite 5 years later.

    Seems to be slightly better proportioned in side profile compared to the i3

    1. @neosamuel8351 Avatar
      @neosamuel8351

      The longer front end to accommodate an ice motor gives the car better proportions

    2. @timoflo369 Avatar
      @timoflo369

      @neosamuel8351 Its not just that. The bonnet is longer and has a lower angle. Look where the side window corner is and how high the bonnet is in comparison. Lower root and smoother c pillar helps as well. The petrol car looks way better imo

      The petrols stance is way higher as wel, which makes a huge difference when adjusted

      I kind’o like the iX3… the Adolf-moustache or beaver teeth that remind me of a time when I couldn’t afford them but I still recognised them as decent driving cars… a nostalgia thing, I think the designer of the 3 should be sacked for not bringing the same nostalgia to all the other cars…

      @xIcarus227

      @gregoryludt3204 seriously, the only thing keeping me from upgrading the Z4 to a G87 M2 is the looks, looks like pure Minecraft. The F87 is absolutely beautiful in comparison.

      iPads look horrendous don’t they? Manufacturers love it because probably speeds up manufacturing time and reduces cost, but they don’t pass that saving onto the buyer!

      @ikuturso7570

      It is sad that my 10 year old cheap Astra feels more elegant than these new “premium” cars thanks to it having real dials and small, integrated (i.e. non-ipad) infotainment screen.

      I just do not understand why would you want a huge screen in your car.

    4. @dajilus2410 Avatar
      @dajilus2410

      @ikuturso7570 Cars have to evolve. The new gen will grow up with this and love it because it’s techcentric. I’m sure people from the 60’s thought the shift from metal and chrome interiors to soft touch and synthetic leather was shitty, but here we are with a whole generation who loves cars from the 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s. Cars are merging with computers, it’s just how it is. You need a solid interface to interact with said car. The west is trying to modernize. People hated on the g80 m3 with it’s big grill and glued on panoramic screen, but it was one of the best selling m3’s ever. I think bmw took a great approach with the panoramic projection under the windshield. It’s much better than the tesla approach to just glue on an ipad and call it a day.

      @d@dajilus2410p. Initially I hated the digital gauge clusters and wished (especially Porsche and BMW at the time) stayed with analog. Now I love the digital. Though on my older collectible the analog is part of its charm and what makes it valuable. But for daily driver and track toy, digital!!
