Rivian Walkaround | Our First Look At The Rivian R3 and R3X

It may still be a few years away but we lastly had a possibility to get hands on with the model Rivian R3 and R3X! These 2 lorries are the smallest examples of a Rivian we have actually seen up until now and by a lot of meanings ought to fall right into the subcompact category though main measurements haven't been launched. The very best method to explain the R3 line is that it's quite similar to the Volvo C40/XC40 however we'll hold out main comparisons till they are offered to drive. In the meantime, we're simply glad we could have a look and reveal you around!

    The R3 Looks like an Ionic 5, which is not a bad thing.

      Ioniq 5-esque for sure and not a bad thing at all. Going a very different direction on exterior lighting though. -Travis

    As long as they add CarPlay, the R3 looks like it will be a great vehicle. (Yes, I saw the articles today.)

      You really dont need CarPlay in a Rivian… the system is already very good

      @@Kurre. yes, I do. I have had a Tesla Model 3 for five years… “need” might be too strong of a word, but I absolutely “want” CarPlay. I had CarPlay before this Model 3, and it was hands down better than what Tesla has built, despite everyone saying Tesla is the gold standard of OEM infotainment systems.

      In the latest (as of this writing) Decoder podcast, the CEO of Rivian addresses CarPlay.

      @@barrsm yes, I said I had seen the articles today, which were covering that podcast episode. I also wrote a long-winded comment on The Verge explaining how RJ was plainly wrong about what he said. Either he is ignorant of how CarPlay works, or he was lying. Either option looks super bad. He was effectively gaslighting. So, no, I’m not impressed by what he said.

    Intresting, wondering where the R3 will land. If it’s in the mid-30k’s well, that’s the hyper-competitive space that is extra saturated right now

      I would guess it starts in the high 30’s. -Travis

    I will strongly consider an R3 if pricing isn’t a surprise, even more if they did an R3T single-cap tiny truck … It would replace my daily ’23 manual integra, but I would keep an older wagon for the occasionally 450+ mile trip to the nearest Micro Center or Canada

    1. @EVBuyersGuide Avatar
      @EVBuyersGuide

      I’m hopeful that pricing stays reasonably close to projections (though for the R3 there hasn’t been anything official so we’re all just taking educated guesses. I don’t, however, expect we’ll be seeing a T variant anytime soon and that’s a prediction I would love to be wrong about. -Travis

    Curious what the towing capacity will be.

      @EVBuyersGuide

      Towing hasn’t been announced for the R2 and I think that will give some indication but I would be pleased if we saw anything over 3,000lbs. -Travis

      It was an early announcement but for a startup like Rivian it’s nice to see what they’re planning on the horizon instead of just guessing. -Travis

    nothing to compare the R3 to? you’re kidding. every manufacturer has a small crossover/suv.

    Love the vehicle style and size but hate the steering wheel controls with a burning passion. When driving I want buttons that do exactly what the label says, at least for key things. Lack of buttons in general will probably keep me away.
