Episode 197 – 2022 Ford F150 Lightning Pickup All-Electric Review

The Ford F-Series has actually been North America's best-selling truck for 56 years. Now it's charging into the future with the electric-powered F-150 Lightning.

The F-150 Lightning is at as soon as both futuristic and familiar. It has loads of modern-day innovation features and yet it may be among the most useful and job site-friendly trucks on sale today.

Inside and out, the Lightning appears like other F-150s– though it's absolutely different beneath, obviously.

My thanks to Fines Ford in Bolton, Ontario for enabling me to look over and drive their demo automobile for a couple of hours! You can discover them at:

Waiting to see if open space / state parks departments buy these for ranger duty

Hope so, would make a great vehicle for that use. I just saw one this week at an Ontario EnRoute Station, charging via the IVY Network. It was a CAA Vehicle (equivalent to U.S. AAA).

Great review Kenneth! I agree, Ford really broke into the mainstream market with this vehicle and I think the first year of these will end up as a collectible car because it has already had such a huge impact on perceptions. I was never a fan of Ford before, but I have to give them massive props for not only risking their two most popular, most iconic brands, but completely going beyond expectations with them. GM and RAM are going to have a hard time making EV trucks that can compete with the thoughtfulness of this vehicle.

Thanks for watching and you have summarized it perfectly! However, I do believe GM’s trucks at least, will be just as good and maybe even a bit better, since they are based on a true all-electric platform from the get-go (Ultium). All 3 have loyal customers and all 3 are and will be great BEVs!

@EV Revolution Show I believe that the RAM trucks will be the game changer…. with a range extender option, for those who need to do a lot of towing….

      But that’s what makes a horse race….

Good luck reviewing all of them…

Thanks for watching. No I have not heard anything yet, but if you are not on a wait list because you want one of these, you should reach out to your local dealer (or if in the area, Fines Ford of Bolton! 🙂 ) and get on their list.

I seldom have to touch my brakes using one pedal driving.
And you’ll increase your range with the regenerative braking.

Less range reduction if you keep vehicle plugged in which will keep the battery warm.

Blue cruise hands free only works on designated divided highways. However blue cruise lane centering does work fairly well and will actually allow you to drive hands free for approximately 10-15 seconds before it prompts to put hands on wheel.

Thanks for watching and for the info. I did not have an opportunity to drive a divided highway.

The Lightning is a modified F-150 platform where GM Silverado EV BT1 is a EV from ground up next year.

    Wait for Ford 2025 redesign.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is already being promised a redesign for the 2025 model year. Reuters mentioned this when discussing Ford’s production plans for the Lightning.

Thanks for watching. Yes I am aware and yes, GM’s are all ground-up BEVs based on the Ultium platform. Regardless. the F150 Lightning is still a great truck!

Great overview Ken, that’s such an impressive and well designed pickup, even it was based on a traditional ICE platform. Kia and Hyundai have already shown that traditional platforms can still make good EVs, while reducing development and production costs as they transition to higher scale dedicated EV platform production. It will be interesting to see if Ford builds a smaller vehicle, similar to the Maverick as they already have a hybrid, and it’s a great compact truck for many people.
