China and Canada’s Shocking Oil Pact – Leaving U S in the Dust as EVs and Energy Wars Heat Up!

China and Canada's Shocking Oil Pact– Leaving U S in the Dust as EVs and Energy Wars Heat Up! Canada's energy sector is at a crossroads as the $34 billion expansion (TMX), completed in Might 2024, opens a Pacific entrance to Asia, breaking decades of U.S. supremacy over its oil exports. Set off by Trump's proposed 10% tariff on and gas, China's has dived into Calgary, protecting an unrefined deal with and considering more with giants like Cenovus and CNRL. With TMX pumping 890,000 barrels daily, set to export gas by 2025, and hydropower surging, Canada is diversifying its energy portfolio and wagering huge on international markets. This thorough expedition unpacks the geopolitical chess match, economic stakes, and environmental tensions driving Canada's pivot from North American reliance to a strong new role on the world phase.

      @BashoStrikes

      Very true. Otherwise Canada is still in the same situation and perhaps worse. Shipping all the way to China for refinement will actually be more expensive than piping it to the US for refinement. In addition, China still charges much higher tarrifs on oil than that proposed by the US.

    2. @chrisgriffith5520 Avatar
      @chrisgriffith5520

      Canada isn’t shipping the oil, China is picking it up, it’s called a Free on Board deal, meaning once it’s loaded in the port unto the Chinese vessel it’s theirs n their responsibility

    5. @BashoStrikes Avatar
      @BashoStrikes

      @@paulvandenberg9588 True in part Chris, but at a greatly reduced price per barrel. And the Free on Board practice, if including a wave of tarrifs (very unusual), will be temporary perhaps as initial incentive. Canada has been and will be employing shipping companies to export petroleum products to the East in general and those countries, including China, will be charging Canada tarrifs. Free on Board usually has nothing to do with tarrifs – it’s a shipping term generally regarding physical responsibility regarding the cargo – iow: once the product is loaded the customer is solely responsible.

      it sounds good when people are angry,but the reality is that will never happen.Canada is expanding to different markets no doubt,and they should, but the current deal involving crude is good for both countries, and because of geography the pipelines are the cheapest way to deliver it. The current USMCA crude from Canada is sold to the US at 20% below market value,the US refines it and sells it at triple the profits. Its why they invested in making refineries for canadian heavy crude,and why canada invested so much in pipeline expansion, though Canada does need for her own future to expand the pipeline to east coast as well,and build more refineries
