2026 Volvo ES90 Reveal | Volvo’s Quick Charging, Long Range… Sedan?

Loading a huge battery under a smooth sedan isn't the simplest thing to do, so rather, Volvo chose to raise the roofing and make the new ES90 more of a sportback/liftback/hatchback/ crossover thing? In any case they are promising over 400 miles of WLTP variety, remarkably quick charging, next-generation processing ability and a roomier interior than the Volvo S90 … Which isn't being changed. Yep, like the XC90/EX90, this ES90 and the S90 will be offered side by side. Will we get it in America? We're not exactly sure yet.

They mention in the features that it can disconnect the rear axle just like they do in the EX90 and Polestar 3. I think they are getting that disconnect from the clutch system for the torque vectoring. So unless they have changed the method of disconnect, it is most likely a similar solution with torque vectoring.

“Sedans” like this are big in China. When I was in Shanghai, most of the EV’s I saw on the street were sedans, and some SUV’s. The previous S90 was a big seller in China and I think they are looking at gaining back some of that “sedan” market share in China with this one also. This will be built in China for that reason. If there is enough interest from the western markets, they may also look at adding production in the South Carolina plant. They have two factories that are rigged for SPA2, Chengdu, China and South Carolina, US. These types of vehicles are not popular in Europe, so there is no point in building them in their European plants. They need that capacity for EX40, EC40, EX30 in Belgium, along with all the PHEV’s being built in Sweden. They are currently building a new factory in Slovakia, which will probably take over the cheaper end of the line up of Volvo in the future. Belgium will produce the middle of the road models and Sweden will produce the higher end models. EX60 on SPA3 will be announced later this year and will be the first EV that Volvo build in Sweden (they had some megacasting equipment delivered to their plant in Sweden last year so they are in the process of getting ready).

This is coming from a Volvo-nerd, excuse the mountain of text, but some people may find it interesting.

Current S90 owner, love this. Rumor is that they can upscale the plant in South Carolina and produce these for US markets, stay tuned.

329 hp to go 0-60 in 6.7 seconds when my Chevy Bolt can do 0-60 in 6.5 seconds with 200 hp…

I appreciate that if they feel like they need to offer something other than an SUV (good!), they at least give it a hatch with decent practicality. That’s what the model S, lucid, etc are lacking.

This looks amazing………….but I doubt we’ll see it here. Eventual EX60 and ES60(maybe) production would take precedence over this in the US.

EV sedans need to be taller if they want to fit the batteries under the floor and still have comfortable vertical cabin space

Pretty cool looking, I’d definitely take a test drive and reminisce about my 1999 S70 that I miss.
