2024 Kia EV9 First Look! | Kia’s 3-Row Rivian Alternative?!

Although we do not have pricing yet, you can wager that Kia's 9 will be less than the Rivian R1T, Tesla Design X, and EQS SUV, the three primary options in the world that have a usable 3rd row at the moment. Sure, you can get one in the Model Y, however it's an emergency-use row while the EV9 will be basically an " Telluride" in terms of measurements. Kia did not however merely make a Telluride EV, rather they clean-sheet created a family hauler for this century with a flat floor, swiving seats and the pledge of hands complimentary driving …

If this is priced well, this will literally dominate the market.

Hopefully not years I’ve been waiting for this thing to come to market.

Needs to be built in US to get tax credit though

@Bhargava Matta I feel like tax credits are a moot point, people think it’s important but it only matters if your tax liability is over $7500. Barely anyone pays that much in taxes.

@Brent Webb Yep, and not to mention that whenever the government gives incentives, the manufactures and dealers just bump up the price to compensate. It really is a zero sum game.

Would be interesting to see what the tow rating will be. I’m also wondering about the swivel seats and safety requirements, such as will this be tested with the seats facing rearward or will it allow swiveling while driving?

      5000 lbs was mentioned.

This looks really good, I am excited to see how they price it. Hopefully, we can get that revamped Toyota/Lexus EV platform soon to compete in this space

I don’t see polarizing at all, I see modern design. I love it! It looks like a electrified Telluride IMO. Yes some changes in design but a similar astehetic.

    Those wheels are killer ❤❤❤

KIA apparently thought they were Mercedes, Genesis thinks they’re Bentley, and now KIA thinks they’re Cadillac with these design cues.

They lack originality and heritage. It’s so weird that y’all actually praise them for lazily copying other brands’ work and just puts their own twist on it.

If it was any other manufacturer doing this y’all would make a mockery of them.

@mybro727 sorry, but you’re really wrong. For one, the design industry, especially the automotive one, is really small. For a long while, the lead automotive designer for Bentley was Korean. Hyundai group poached the creative director of Bentley, who eventually bought over the lead designer. The style doesn’t belong to the brand as much as it does the designer.

As for Kia, they *used* to copy Lexus but now they’re doing something completely different. Current Cadillac design language uses long smooth character lines and almost slab like sides in their designs. Kia is currently developing a design language that is more sculpted like architecture

Very attractive styling. You’re right Alex, it does look like a supersized Niro. Keeping with the Niro school of thought… I think it would be cool to see this sharp new body also offered as a “bladder busting range” hybrid, as Alex called it (lol), and a PHEV. A small generator and small tank could ride along with this size vehicle and you’d never know it was there till you needed it. Like the Niro, that would have something for everybody. Thoughts??

I have a strange request: can you measure the overall height of the rear cargo opening?

Would love to see below the load floor in back as well as the middle row pushed as far back as possible (with rear seat stowed) for maximum “minivan” style storage options in 4-seat config. Also, front trunk space, ground clearance, and lift gate height when open!

Wow! Very impressive for an EV full sized SUV. The American auto companies should take notice and quickly!

I need to buy Kia stock…they are just killing it with EVERYTHING. This will be hotter than the Telluride was when it came out. My Expedition just met its replacement…..

I’m interested to see what the ground clearance is and if it is close to the BZ4X/Solterra

Coming from a Honda Odessey (thanks Alex for helping me chose/buy it) I think those swivel seats are AWESOME! It s so great to slide the child seat back and forth.

I hope they have the seven seat option at the auto show! Can you please check to see how the second row folds down? Really curious how it moves out of the way for 3rd row passengers.

I like the looks over the ford explorer I see going around online. Definitely better than the Rivian too. More along my desired taste.

Would really like to see the 7 seat version and how the second row seats split.

Keep up the comparisons to the Telluride, for ease of translation. Also, check under the rear skirt to see if there is a hidden hitch or if it’s going to be a class three through the bumper. If so, I hope they carry on the chunky triangle wheels well motif instead of trying to blend it into the bumper type cover. I’m interested in the rake of the front windshield and how rounded from left to right the nose of the EV9 is to take the air pressure off the front of the vehicle. 12:50

As much I love the snazzy rotation chairs, and it appears there will be the option to have power adjustable second row chairs (not in combination with the swivel): I care more about usability/function of the bench in the 7-seat configuration.

The fact that I see Tellurides and Palisades everywhere, I think this thing is gonna be real successful if it’s under $50k to start.
