Satisfy the brand new 3!

Following on from the successful launch of the 6 and EV9, it's time for Mat to get his hands on 's brand new mid-sized SUV. Unlike the EV6 & EV9, the EV3 features a pretty low cost point, starting at just ₤ 33,000!

However does it offer enough to lure you away from rivals like the E-2008 & Volvo EX30? Let's take a closer look …

In terms of the style, it's most definitely a head-turner! It's upright and quite square, with Kia's distinctive vertical headlight style and plenty of glossy black trim. It may not be as daunting as the remarkable EV9, however it definitely impresses from the exterior.

On the inside, it's more of the very same! There's a set of digital dials along with an instinctive infotainment screen on the centre of the dash, and the cabin is filled with soft touch and excellent quality materials. The seats might not be the most figure-hugging and encouraging, but they're still relatively comfy.

The entry-level EV3 has a 58kWh battery, while all other editions are geared up with an 81kWh. Those with the larger battery have actually a declared series of up to 375 miles, which is definitely more excellent than much of its crucial rivals!

The question is, would Mat pick the EV3 over the 2024 Automobile of the Year – the Volvo EX30? You'll require to keep watching to see for yourself!

    5:35 – I agree with Mat on the heat pump only being available on the top-spec GT-Line S (and even then it’s still not standard – you’ll have to pay an extra £900 for it), especially considering that A) the exemption from the £40k> ‘luxury car’ surcharge for electric cars will come to an end in only a few month’s time – and the GT-Line S is £42k before options, making it liable for the surcharge for those registered on or after 1 Apr 2025, and B) sister company Hyundai offers a heat pump as standard on the smaller Inster across the range, even on the base ‘01’ specification.

    If Hyundai can make a heat pump standard on its smallest EV, I see no reason why Kia can’t do the same here with the EV3.

      Its the other way around. Common mistake for beginner youtubers is to leave a mono signal on the mic channel. Microphone records mono and hence is played on only one speaker, so they have to double the signal, most commonly done by making it a stereo channel. Goes to show their production team is sloppy, not reviewing the video before uploading it. They had some mistakes in the past, but nothing like this, usually, just their levels suck.

    That driver’s seat was leaning so far back when you tested the room in the back. Hardly a fair test, when you couldn’t even drive it with the seat in that position. I sat in the back while the 6’2″ driver drove us around, and I’m about the same height. I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about, there’s plenty of knee and headroom. Anyway, I’ve just come back from a test drive and absolutely loved it. I was really surprised at how big it was, and as someone who hasn’t driven an EV before, I can tell you that it’s bloody quick compared to any ICE offering of a similar size. If you’re used to blisteringly fast Teslas and such like, you might think it’s slow, but it’s way faster than I’m ever going to need. Yes, I’m in my late 60’s, but I’ve had fast bikes and powerful saloons, so I know what performance is. This is the perfect blend of performance and cost of ownership. No stupid low profile tyres that cost a fortune, with rims that can easily get damaged by potholes. No crazy top insurance group.
    This is physically a little larger than I need, but it’s good enough to get me to part with my money.

    1. @lw2978 Avatar
      @lw2978

      Still quite a high insurance group compared to ICE cars but I fully agree with the rest of what you point out-I’m 6’4″ and had good amounts of room in the car when testing it, and it had more than enough virtues for me to place an order.
