      It’s an industry standard measure of body build quality. As I’m sure you’re aware the knock against Tesla is that it’s very high end technology in a very poorly made “car”.

      Exactly. No me cares if one gap is 1mm different between the brands. Consistency is key. That’s where Tesla fails in many areas including paint.

      @@wethomas3 It’s to be expected since they’re one of the newer brands. It’s still impressive that a newer brand than most other brands out there is already competing with super cars and are some of the safest cars out there.

    Isn’t it about panels not being aligned or gaps starting small and ending big and the other way around? It’s not about how big they are.

    This reminded of an old joke from the soviet time. When the German manufacturers want to test the seal of a new car, they close a cat inside for a day and if the next day it suffocated inside and died, the car passes. Russian manufacturers put a cat inside and if by the next day the cat hadn’t escaped, the car passes. Now replace the Russian cars with Tesla and it’s pretty much the same, although for a lot more money.

    @R1998U

    The different manufacturing tolerance is the main reason behind these visible major differences in quality. The Tesla shown here obviously has bigger tolerances compared to the BMW. The size of the gap doesn’t matter at all. It would only allow for bigger tolerances. You also can’t really say that Tesla didn’t do their homework, as the chosen tolerances are sufficient. And as most of their customers (e.g. North American market) don’t care, they decided to cut costs here and spend the money on other features.
