Because putting the reversing camera where the washing function is located (as Mercedes and VW do it) apparently was too complicated.

You won’t get a rear view of the car when its not reversing though e.g. if you want to get a bird’s eye view of your car

    Then the soap dries up😂

It’s not soap, it’s washing fluid so it doesn’t really dry up from those surfaces.. but it can leave dirt there still if it isn’t wiped.

@Mika 🤣it’s not like the driver would wipe it on a long distance trip

The bigger question is why did they integrate the washer in the logo like couldn’t they just integrate the camera in the logo so that it pops out when you need it?

Exactly, something like Mercedes and Volkswagen style😏

I think it’s so they could implement the accident video recording feature. I played around with a 23 735i and you can set it up to take recordings of an accident 30secs prior and 30secs after. However I’m not exactly sure which camera it uses (front, sides, back). Maybe it even stitches all angles into a single vid not sure tho..

The logo is probably actuated by the fluid pressure. So it would be more advanced to open the logo with an actual electronic actuator. Not a big issue or cost, but may be why they did it.

Yeah, so if the logo pop mechanism breaks, i can’t use my back-up camera…geniuses

That’s a good idea but the problem is that Mercedes Benz and VW also do that. I guess this was a matter of pride cause there’s no way that they didn’t think to use this method

I don’t like it because then it remains all that stained part with water and foam, especially if there is dust on the bodywork.

My A class for $25k just opens the latch for the camera – crystal clean quality everytime. BMW needs to get a grip.

Yeah but its a merc so in like a year from now it’ll be broke and you can’t use your camera🤣🤣🤣

@Brady I’ve had it for 3 years without any issues besides regular oil maintenance.

@Mika 3 years isn’t much for electronics, they have no longevity and Mercedes doesn’t want them to hahaha.

Lol. If you properly keep your car clean you dont need to have this function wich also sprays the whole back of your car. 😂😂

But if you wash it all that fluid will just make stain marks at the back prob
