New Audi S3 review: Better than an M340i?

Mat's got his hands on the brand-!

It's a facelift more than a brand new design, and Mat's about to learn how much it's improved over the previous edition.

For starters, let's take a look at the engine! It shows up with the very same 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo as the previous vehicle, however, the performance has been increased. It can now produce 333hp and 420Nm, 23hp & 20Nm more than the previous cars and truck. It's still equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch, and it also has Quattro four-wheel drive.

When it comes to the design, it's still relatively similar to the previous edition, with a couple of tweaks. Around the back, there's a bootlip spoiler, along with an upgraded aggressive rear bumper. As normal, there are likewise quad-tailpipes. Along the side are some side skirts and black door mirrors. In advance, there's a new aggressive bumper, as well as a blacked-out grille. The air consumption on either side of the grille looks pretty menacing, too.

Step within and it's all largely the like the previous edition. There's a Sport S steering wheel, along with the usual S sport seats. There are soft-touch products throughout the majority of the dash, as well as Alcantara on the dash. Otherwise, it's all basically the same, apart from the gear selector style changing slightly.

But is it worth the ₤ 47,000 starting price? You'll need to stick with Mat to see on your own.

      Ditto with my Golf 7R – it was £27k after discounts (I think £32k RRP) when I got it in late 2016. Sold it for £16k in 2023 so it cost me £11k over 7 years. Today a MK8 R with some options is easily £45k. It is faster though with better Haldex etc. but wouldn’t say £13k better…a few mods to a 7R would make it just as quick or quicker than a stock 8R for a lot, lot less.

      All money seems to go to the electric cars. The upcoming electric A6 looks kinda dank. These “new” petrol Audis are more of the same old with minor improvements. This banana rocket color doesnt suit this car. Expecially doesnt suit the front grill/logo situation. Needs a graphite gray or just straight out black to blend in that weird logo.

      Why do these press cars always have to be some wonky color, like theyre trying to showcase that “yes look, we can indeed load the painting robot arm with different colors”

    I own a Golf 7 GTD from 2013. and can not wrap my mind around the fact that it has better interior material on may parts of the car, compared to Audi A3 from 2023., which I drove just this week, booked a test drive from local dealership. Specifically, the material on the doors, from top to bottom and ending in the door bins, which are made from worse plastic and are not covered with soft cloth. For a 45k € car which is supposed to be premium, I can’t understand this.

    1. @oskar6661 Avatar
      @oskar6661

      Yep, all the VAG cars are losing quality rapidly…while the prices are sky-rocketing. In the US here, the gold standard seemed to be the Golf 6-7…while the 8 is trash by comparison. So I’d imagine it’s all down hill from here. Hell we can’t even buy a Golf in the US anymore. Just overpriced and ugly GTI’s and Golf R’s.

    This is one of very few new car interiors that I like. I like where they put the infotainment screen and I like the way the instrument panel behind the steering wheel isn’t just a tablet slapped on top of the dashboard like some cars. It’s more of a normal design with the instrument screen inside a binacle.
