Satisfy the all-new Polestar 5!

It's an all-electric performance GT that has class leaders like the Audi e-tron GT & Porsche Taycan in its sights!

The concern is, does the Polestar offer enough to steer you far from the more established, best-in-class models that Germany needs to provide? Let's take a better look …

In regards to the style, there's no denying it has some genuine presence on the roadway. Up front, it features split headlight aspects that really help it look enormous. You'll find some phony vents at the front, although there's a big vent across the bottom of the bumper that can close when the battery doesn't need cooling. The security sensing units have actually likewise been well concealed, to further improve the appearances. Along the side, there are shapes on the doors to add more meaning, coupled with frameless windows. The pop-out door manages might not be to everyone's taste, however fortunately, both the front and rear doors have soft-close. Around the rear, the futuristic design hints continue, and the main declaration here is a lack of a back window!

On the inside, you'll find similar Scandinavian minimalism as found in other Polestar automobiles – but that's no bad thing! There are soft-touch, premium products throughout the cabin, and the centre console is controlled by a large vertical infotainment screen. There are no physical buttons, so whatever is managed through the screen, but fortunately the system is crisp and quick to utilize. The digital dials are simple to manage with buttons on the guiding wheel, which is of a good size. It likewise features damped, high-quality stalks on either side.

The Polestar 5 features some severe power. All alternatives come with two motors, with the entry-level being able to produce 748hp. If you choose the Performance version, this output is considerably improved to 884hp! It's powered by a 106kWh battery, and the Performance edition has a series of 416 miles.

But obviously, all of this performance and power does not come inexpensive. The Polestar 5 starts from ₤ 89,000, increasing to ₤ 105,000 for the Efficiency edition. However, the cars and truck we're evaluating here, with all choices added, expenses ₤ 117,000!

So would you really select one of these over a Porsche? Let us know in the remarks!

      Most sporty electric cars do. I think superyachts depreciate around 15% in the first year. I think the electric cars are around 20% to 25% on average.

    3. @rattlehead999 Avatar
      @rattlehead999

      @TheMagnificentStories The new hybrid batteries already achieved 35-50% more power per kilogram than the current ones, and the solid state batteries should double it per kg.

      But in general chassis are way too heavy since the mid-late 2000s and have only gotten heavier, not just for EVs, but especially EVs.

    4. @Neojhun Avatar
      @Neojhun

      @TheMagnificentStories Wrong it should not be that heavy. A Model 3 LR vs F80 BMW 3.0L Straight 6 is about 50kg weight difference. This car should be 1945kg like old Audi RS7 even as a BEV.

      Taller vehicles do have one advantage especially for city driving. By raising the seats, you gain effective leg room which in turn allows you to make the vehicle shorter while maintaining comfort for rear passengers.
      However this doesn’t prevent manufacturers from making cars long and tall.

      If you get a lot of snow, clearance is nice to have. Cargo space is also a big plus lots of SUVs have, but hatchbacks have that too.

      There is definitely a valid market, but I agree there’s no need for EVERY new car to be an SUV.

  9. @Andronk Avatar
    @Andronk

    The car’s speedo will overread by about 3mph, so it stops timing when it thinks it’s doing 60mph but it’s really only doing 57, whereas Mat’s specialist timing gear stops at a true 60mph which comes a fraction of a second later.

    1. @PeteTheL337 Avatar
      @PeteTheL337

      I would have throught it was because the specalist timing gear is GPS based and there suffers from a tiny bit of delay.

    2. @macchine.veloci.2 Avatar
      @macchine.veloci.2

      Car overreading is calculated, so the car also knows what the true speed is. Calculations “should” be performed on true speed reading. I know cause BMW secret menu allows you to show the true speed on LCD which differs from the shown speed. If Polestar has gone for the calculations on the shown speed, well, guess they’ll need to send an OTA update after this video

    3. @stipekatavic1104 Avatar
      @stipekatavic1104

      And even 60mph is still not 100kmh,in real world real 0-100 with no 1 foot roll out,and gps 100kmh will always be slower than 0-60 on speedo(3-90kmh real speed)

    4. @Albertvh1997 Avatar
      @Albertvh1997

      That doesn’t explain the 1/4 mile time difference though. That shouldn’t depend on the speedo

    5. @deafyboy86 Avatar
      @deafyboy86

      @Albertvh1997It absolutely does. The car knows speed and distance only really via the ABS wheel speed sensors, therefore it uses wheel rotations to work out how far it’s travelled, then just divides by the time it took to work out the speed.

    1. @EeiAai Avatar

      I feel like his videos are mostly nonsense. He constantly does these drag races, but absolutely nobody launches a car from 0-60. He should rather test 30-60 and 50-80.

      Just like his off-road “tests” whenever he has a Hilux or Land Cruiser. I understand it’s rather about entertainment than actually testing the car but his videos are still quite… nonsensical.

      I live in Japan and drive a Supra and have had to drive backwards down roads because my car wouldn’t fit. I’ve been to places where the hotel I’ve booked emailed me and asked me what I drive and were like “we’re sorry but you’re going to have to park down the hill. Your car won’t make it up the drive.” This thing is probably 50 cm wider than my Supra… definitely not made for Japan, Italy, or other countries with tiny roads.
