Is this hot hatch the best family car?

Modification your automobile with Carwow:

This is the upgraded !

's famous hot hatch has actually gotten a facelift for 2025. The concern is, just how much has altered compared to the previous edition? And is it a better option than rivals like the Golf R & Civic Type R? Let's discover.

Beginning with the design, there are a few crucial elements that separate it from the regular . Up top there's a more aggressive front bumper and bigger air consumptions, and along the side there are special alloy styles along with black surrounds for the windows. At the back there's another aggressive-style rear bumper, a boot lip spoiler, and a set of twin exhausts.

On the within, there are once again a number of design components to separate it from the routine vehicle. There's a sports steering wheel, racing red digital dials, and lots of red stitching throughout. Those in the front are likewise dealt with to sports seats, and while they're comfy, the material feels a little low-cost. The back row is practically identical to the regular .

Under the bonnet is a 2-litre turbocharged 4 cylinder that delivers 265hp and 370Nm. That's 20hp more than the previous edition, and power is sent to the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch. It has a declared 0-60mph time of 6.4 seconds.

The expenses around ₤ 39,3000, but is it worth it? Or should you invest that cash on one of its key rivals? Stick to Mat to see on your own!

    7:03 rear window wiper was a “no cost” option since, at least, Octavia A5 FL. My dad ordered A5 FL in 2010 without this option, because he doesn’t like the look of rear window wiper on the rear window. To be honest, it’s not a necessary option, as the shape of a car is more like sedan (liftback) and not hatchback, so the rear window stays clean in the rain.

    I don’t understand why the Octavia is considered a “hatchback” when it’s much bigger than pretty much all of them. If only because of the boot/trunk, then you can call the Audi A5 Sportback or BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé a hatchback too, which they obviously aren’t. True hatchbacks are things like the Ford Focus/Fiesta, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, VW Golf, Mazda 3, Seat/Cupra Leon, … Go premium, there’s things like the Mercedes A-Class, BMW 1 Series, Audi A3, … Small cars like that. Honda Civic… yeah, sure. But yet again, the Skoda is much bigger than that. If you can explain the reason, please be my guest.

    1. @nicolasalcala8318 Avatar
      @nicolasalcala8318

      A hatchback is defined by its rear door that swings upward and gives access to the cargo area, which is integrated with the cabin rather than being separated like in a sedan. The key feature is that the cargo space is open to the rest of the interior, and you can usually fold down the rear seats for more room.
      It’s a design layout, not a size category, so while many hatchbacks are compact (like the VW Golf or Ford Focus), not all hatchbacks are small. The Corvette C6 is a great example of a high-performance sports car with a hatchback design.
      So no, a car doesn’t have to be tiny with a short rear end to be a hatchback. What matters is how the boot and cabin are configured, not the badge or market segment.

      @nicolasalcala8318 Following that logic, you call the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé a hatchback as well. Clearly, it’s a coupé (literally in its name). I get what you mean, but that is extremely confusing to the public. Most people just call it a sedan because it looks like it from the outside. Unless the hatch is open, people don’t even know what it is. The UK also does have weird naming, such as “VRS”. In the rest of Europe it is called “RS”. They’re the only one who chose differently. Why? No clue.

    There is a clear distinction between a hatchback and a liftback. This is a liftback, which has a sedan-style body with a hatchback-style tailgate

    1. @Jo3man96 Avatar
      @Jo3man96

      This is the UK, lift back isn’t a thing. On the V5C (registration document), this is a hatchback. In the UK, a hatchback is a car where the boot is hinged at the top of the rear window. There are sub categories (not including lift back), but this is just a big hatch, and in that vein, the Superb is an enormous hatchback.

      Also, a sedan is a chair that people carry you round in.

Some are 2+2, some are 2 seaters only, and some of the massive ones like older Bentleys, are proper 4 seaters, just with 2 doors. Does kind of prove my point that coupe is a very imprecise term.
