Mat's flown over to Croatia to check out an extremely unique car!
He's headed over to Rimac's recently constructed school, but he's not having a look at an all-new, all-electric hypercar – he will get up close and individual with Rimac's new robotaxi concept! That's right, the creators of the 1,914 hp Rimac Nevera are creating a self-governing taxi!
So let's take a more detailed take a look at the vehicle. It's called Verne, and Rimac are hoping it will start rolling out by as early as 2026! In terms of the size of the cars and truck, it looks like it could easily blend in within a city without sticking out as an autonomous car. On the outdoors, it's covered in sensing units to help it manoeuvre around the streets, and in this early phase of development, the plan is for it to run just within cities instead of making longer journeys out of town.
On the within, there are just two seats, and on the dash, there's a big screen that displays all the details you'll need. It shows information of your journey, and includes a choice of music, apps, and even the capability to use an Xbox! The seats are extremely customisable, with the choice to recline should you so desire.
The taxi can be hailed through an app, and before it arrives you'll even have the choice to set the interior temperature level and light settings!
The Verne is powered by a 60kWh battery which needs to provide adequate variety to run for a whole day in a city. It has a motor that drives the front wheels, can provide around 200hp, and it weighs in at 2,100 kg.
So what are your thoughts on the Verne? And more notably, might it be a serious competitor to Tesla's upcoming self-governing taxi?! You'll require to stick with Mat and see for yourself!
