Many manufacturers are guilty of this, it literally dilutes the brand

Doesn’t dilute the brand it’s helps massively with sales. Many people want the look of a sporty car but don’t actually care about the performance that much. Basically middle aged people who don’t have much interest in cars or younger people who can’t afford the top specs. I think it’s pretty understandable. Anyone with small amount of car knowledge knows which cars are the s-line, m-sport, r-line, AMG-line from the actual top spec models.

I’ve seen tests of those aftermarket air filters. Often they actually reduce the power.

@@eugene9852 That’s true. Although when you do a remap it usually begins to make sense because your turbo pulls more air and having less restrictions is good.

After putting a chip in my 2004 320d, I have enjoyed the 30hp and 50Nm boost it gained, but never wanted to put any badge on it, let alone an M badge.

When I was buying my car the dealer had a 3 series where someone had scratched around the BMW badge on the front. It was like “Ima gonna key across your bumper bar but very carefully avoid the badge.”
