If I don’t mind asking what is the purpose of this suspiciously placed vent?

Release air pressure when boot closes

When he closes the trunk, the vent stays shut to keep the air inside. When he opens it, the vent also opens up to let the air out.

I used to wonder how they deal with changing pressure when it closes

These allow the doors and boot to close by allowing the air in the car to vent. Without them, the doors and boot could not close because it would be a sealed vessel. Ford had a recall on the Fiesta back in 1990 as they were sticking open allowing fumes in when in slow moving traffic. I had a Fiesta Flair van at the time which was recalled, I never knew about these vents before then.

Correction, you meant “would close, but could not open.”

@@deividasnavickas nope, the doors wouldn’t close, they would bounce open before latching.

    Works for the doors too.
If there’s occupants in the car, it stops the pressure blowing people’s ear drums out. And your windows.
