VWs have had this automatic belt system connected to the door since the 80s
-
All cars from 80’s and 90’s here in America had those safety seat belts I didn’t like them at all
-
-
My dad’s camry (V20) from the late 80’s/early 90’s had this aha
-
my 1770 Cugnot Fardier had this too
-
Nissan 240sx in the 90s had this.

This car is a US market version, those things where mandated there, same for the massive rubber strips on the bumpers. The EU Version has normal belts and bumpers
-
Because Ferrari did not put airbags in their most expensive car, they had to install motorized “mouse” seatbelts to meet passive restraint standards in the US.

It’s not broken, it’s just a Ferrari. There’s a reason Mr. Lamborghini started making cars…
-
This is definitely not a new thing, and it’s a great way not to get a ticket for not wearing your seatbelt.
-
Only the American F40s have this ridiculous system. It was due to US safety regulations.

Day 384 of asking carwow for a Hyundai Getz sx drag race

Reminds me of the 89 Camry. I’m surprised this tech is making a comeback. Now that I think about it, why did it ever go away?
-
Had a 91 Mercury Cougar with those belt systems.
-
Same with Nissan 180SX or 240SX

$1800 for a seat belt that’s not tight enough you actually need another seat belt to restrain you., great design 🙄🤷♂️
-
Silly American rulesssss
-
So, it was all about lightweight but then they made that “technologically extravagant” device… instead of a 4-point harness, which would have been more apropiate given the racing spirit of this car
-
so it’s the same as an EF Civic…
