It's an ultra-affordable family SUV hitting the UK market from Chinese brand name Chery, and it's aiming to stand out of buyers thinking about family-friendly SUVs such as the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage.

Mat's got his hands on it to see if this high-spec, low-cost crossover is a real deal or if you ought to stay with the established names. So let's dive in …

Beginning with the exterior style, the Tiggo 7 makes rather an impression. Up front, you get an imposing face with a massive grille, sharp LED headlights, and a high, flat bonnet line. Along the side, there's plenty of chrome trim around the windows to elevate the look, while around the back, it keeps things fashionable with a full-width rear LED light bar. All that being stated, however, but we can't assist however discover a great deal of inspiration being drawn from other, more established brand names. For example, the grille and headlights remind us of a Q7, while the chrome styling along the side is reminiscent of a Vauxhall Grandland!

The motivation from other brand names continues the within as well. The dash style appears particularly similar to an old BMW X6, the infotainment screen style resembles that discovered in a brand-new BMW X6, and the door panels remind us of a Mercedes!

However, all that being stated, the interior is still very well made. The dashboard and upper door cards are upholstered in soft-touch leatherette, which is exceptionally excellent for a cars and truck at this price point. You get a clean twin-screen display setup on the dash, though the infotainment menus themselves can be a bit uncomfortable and fiddly to browse on the move. Passenger area is excellent with plenty of head and legroom for grownups in the back, and you get a generous 565-litre boot – though selecting the plug-in hybrid design cuts into that depth slightly.

In regards to engines, you have a choice in between standard fuel or a plug-in hybrid. The entry-level cars and truck features a 1.6-litre turbo fuel engine that can provide 147hp. Nevertheless, the pick-of-the-range (and the vehicle we have in this video), is a 1.5-litre gas plug-in hybrid, which comes with 204hp and the capability to travel for up to 56 miles on electrical power alone!

The Chery Tiggo 7 starts from ₤ 24,995, with the range-topping plug-in hybrid being available in at ₤ 32,995. There's no rejecting that the plug-in hybrid is most likely the very best buy, offered it features all the added extras that aren't included with the entry-level cars and truck. However should you pick it over its closest rivals? Stick to Mat to see for yourself!

    2. @lesego2933 Avatar

      @Maestermint

      @lesego2933Well some modern features sure like a heated steering wheel, but not all the annoying driver aids. Honestly a car is a car at the end of the day and if it’s cheap, easy to maintain, comfortable enough, practical and reliable I couldn’t be happier.

    5. @mjf11jb Avatar
      @mjf11jb

      Ergonomics in Dacia is way better. That really counts. More stuff means more breakage, people who buy Dacia usually want less of that. They perceive stuff such as sunroof, which will most likely leak in a few years, as such unnecessary feature. Offering more stuff won’t convince these people. Also, servicing situation is way better for Dacia. So yeah, it offers more features to tick, which may matter for some, but it’s not as big an advantage.

    5. @Moabi4 Avatar
      @Moabi4

      @tenpoundburrito they are obviously safe and reliable. The safety rating of Chinese cars is similar to that of European cars that is why they are allowed on the European market. 😂😂😂

      Also, there are no people complaining about their reliability. They have some of the longest warranty, more than European cars, that’s how much they trust the quality and reliability.

    I honestly can’t relate to a single comparison Matt made. It feels like he walked in with a preconceived judgment and is trying way too hard to find ‘copycat’ faults just because of its origin. To say this looks like an Audi, a BMW, or a Lexus is a massive stretch, none of the lines or design barely align. It’s time to judge the car for what it actually is rather than viewing it through a colored lens.

    1. @tenpoundburrito Avatar
      @tenpoundburrito

      You must need glasses. The comparisons to other vehicles are legitimate. Plus, he does this with every vehicle, not just Chinese ones. I’ve seen him compare Land Rovers, BMWs, and Toyotas to other vehicles too. It’s just that whenver it’s a Chinese car, the communist bots get angry.

      yeah, to me it kinda feels like the same thing too, and i’ve said this here before. whenever they use those super generic titles, it lowkey gives off this subliminal vibe of “oh look, another chinese car, all the same, more cheap rubbish”. but if it was from literally any other country, they’d either mention the actual brand and model or only use a generic title if they were testing loads of different cars together. and realistically, the only way most of us are even gonna learn about chinese manufacturers is if western media actually talks about them properly — unless we all start learning mandarin i guess. like come on, these companies are putting out genuinely good products for lower prices because they wanna grow fast and compete at scale, but the media still keeps throwing in these shady little digs under the surface instead of judging the cars fairly.
