It's time for a few of the most difficult off-roaders to go head-to-head!

We have actually got our hands on the Land Rover Protector OCTA, a tuned Ineos Grenadier, and a tuned Ford Ranger Raptor, and they're going to go head-to-head over a series of off-road challenges to see which is the very best when you avoid the tarmac.

However how do they compare on paper? Let's deep dive into the stats …

The Land Rover Defender OCTA is powered by a BMW 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 635hp and 750Nm. Power is sent out to all four wheels via an 8-speed car gearbox, and the automobile weighs in at 2,510 kg. It has several functions to assist it traverse this off-road course, consisting of a central & rear locking diffs in addition to uprated suspension. However, it's not cheap – it costs an eye-watering ₤ 158,000!

Up next, we have actually the tuned Grenadier. It rolls up with a tuned 3-litre straight-six that puts down 450hp and 680Nm. It's slightly lighter than the OCTA, at 2,480 kg. It's likewise geared up with a central locking diff, uprated suspension, and it's a great deal cheaper than the Land Rover, costing around ₤ 100,000.

Then, lastly, we have actually the tuned Ford Ranger Raptor. It's powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo V6, and this sends 420hp and 610Nm to all four wheels through a 10-speed auto gearbox. It's packing a front and rear diff, raised suspension, and aftermarket wheels and tires – the only vehicle here not on factory tyres! It tips the scales at 2,454 kg, and it's by far the most affordable cars and truck here, costing around ₤ 60,000.

So the Ineos and Ford combined cost the like the OCTA. However will either of them be able to remove this top-of-the-range Defender? There's only one way to learn!

      After dropping 1 point to the Ineos, the Defender Octa (on street tires) would have cruised straight down to the Nurburgring, in absolute comfort, and set a lap record (on the exact same tires)

  7. @GentlemanJamesWin Avatar
    @GentlemanJamesWin

    Octa is available from the factory with off road tires. It would have smashed the other 2 in that configuration.

      @typhoon-7

      To be fair the Raptor would have done better than it did here with the BFGs it comes with from factory too. Same as the Ineos had here. The engine fair enough but the wheels and tyres… Not needed. In fact the increased track I think makes it look worse and want help front articulation.

      Can’t really blame them. Unless you live in a farm, nowadays you’d be hard press to find areas that don’t have asphalt roads. It also doesn’t help that SUVs and off-roaders are getting so expensive that they are out of reach for the farmers to buy.
