What you probably do understand is that electric vans can save you cash and that electric automobiles provide absolutely no emissions while driving and help reduce air pollution. Oh, which they have fewer moving parts to fail …

However what a lot of prospective owners do not constantly understand is that electrical vans are exceptionally easy to drive and fantastic enjoyable too.

We'll begin with the stuff you won't see. There's no transmission doing a million and one things under the bonnet. All you have is a selector where you to select in between going forwards … or in reverse … And for the times that you're not doing either of those things, you can select park and it locks the wheels.

Like an automated, there are 2 pedals, accelerator and brake. The one that provides the most home entertainment is, naturally, the one on the right. Unless you're a bit odd. Unlike a gas or diesel, electric vans deliver full power the second you push the accelerator. That means they feel actually perky as quickly as you retreat, which is excellent if you are dealing with up a hill or pulling out of a junction.

You'll likewise discover that an feels a lot more secure to drive, and that's since the battery pack is right below the load area which keeps the centre of gravity extremely low.

I drive a van for a living. In Central London. A Luton. What is the biggest electric van available? How far will it go? Would you like to get your hands on one and bring it out with me for a day to show what it can do? A “real-world” test….

Some electric van manufacturers offer 24 hour test drives. I think Ford do (or at least did ) with the new electric Transit… Of course they can’t suit everyone who needs a van, but for people such as plumbers, painters, carpenters, and possibly some other trades or businesses who don’t often travel more than 50 miles or so from their base (such trades don’t usually earn money while travelling), they can make sense.

Amazon and other delivery companies use electric vans where I live in Scotland. They are all high roof transit size. I’m no expert on vans, but they do say electric on the back, and they clearly do the job. All of our local service buses are also electric.

The biggest thing to get with electric van is the weight issue. If you get a small battery one 58-65kwh battery and put a lot of weight in it you will only get about 100 miles range in comparison to a 58kwh car that get 230-260 miles. The 77kwh battery vans we have in the company I work for with the same added weight get about 190-210 in the summer. Also during winter you will lose about 10-20% range loss If you are using the van for around the town work then all will be ok. However if you are driving long distances then the bigger battery version is recommended. Also look at the charging speeds the ones we have take about 45 mins to get from 20-80% in comparison to my car which take about 20 minutes. Which is just the time it takes to have a pee and grab a coffee.

The new Renault Master is a very good option, and it also has good range as far as I know.. They say 420km with the bigger battery and loaded. That’s probably enought for almost everyone imo.

Unfortunately ev Van’s are awful. Once loaded up lucky to get 80 to 100 miles. Half that in cold weather. Depending on make. Move out of London is probably you’re best bet. Untill that bellend khan is removed from power you’ve no chance.

What surprises me, is that I can still recognize an EV from a legacy manufactory and modern EV builders like Tesla, or the Chinese.
Interiors from Citroën, Renault, BMW, VW, Mercedes etc feel outdated, when you ever sat in a Tesla or BYD, Zeekr, Dongfeng etc.

I’m about to hit 100,000mi (within 1 hour of this comment) on my Tesla Model 3 SR+. I clicked to help the algorithm and can often learn new stuff with beginner videos. And I like to see what else is out there on the market.

I know what you mean but she’s always breezy and upbeat. Escaping into the fantasy world of EV car reviews takes one away from the reality of failing car brands with unheard of debt, eye watering depreciation of EVs, and astronomical EV insurance. Pretty soon if you have an EV in the yard you’ll struggle to get house insurance. And as for parking in a multi-story… Which is a pity, cos I’d like an EV. But not yet a while. The market is saturated with over-production – there’ll be a reset soon. Once one falls, be it Nissan, VW, Toyota or whoever, it’ll be (car)nage.

Regen is great for stopping but Gliding is much better. Glide as much as possible is the driving goal as much it would be good for a manual car. And it would be cooler if a Citroen/PSA kept the Nemo alive and Stellantis focused on delivering a electric small mpv.

This is the second video with this Stellantis product talking about some generic ev stuff. Is this paid by Stellantis? Range or driving with an EV is even better/easier in any other car. So weird. Stellantis is not THE manufacturer that has a bright EV future or a future at all.

    1. @savioemc2 Avatar

I think that when they review a new car, the time is limited; so I think that for those educational and generic videos, they simply choose to rent the vehicle that offers the cheapest price.

@savioemc2  Ha ha, I’d choose an attractive vehicle. Not something that reminds of work, is part of a dying car group and on top represents the bottom of the market.

Naw… Nicola. The reason I’ve clicked on this video is to see you again. Your presentations are always informative and fun. Wish I could be a fly in the cabin when you’re driving: you’re always so effervescent and personable, likely bolstered by the fact that you’re not living on THIS side of the pond right now, because we’re in the handbasket… and know where it’s headed. Apparently the convicted felon elect is going to eliminate our EV incentives.
