All true. Everything about electric cars makes their driving profile superior to gasoline / diesel cars.

Not true. They are heavier, always higher to sit in, they have zero way to be manually involved.

I love EVs but they will never be able to be as fun to drive sporty. It’s not possible.

@wo-olfPlease. For 99.9% of driving, it’s not “fun.” It’s utilitarian and pedestrian. Straight lines, stop lights, stop signs, and traffic. Just about no one is zipping around Alpine roads in a turbo six-cylinder. This is why electric vehicles are so far ahead of gas cars — in the driving that 99.9999% of people do every day, everything about the electric car is superior. Including the fuel, electrons.

@NeverHaveKids 99.9999% of people don’t have a Yacht and party on the open sea. It’s still more fun than sitting in a one bedroom apartment watching Netflix.

Fun doesn’t care what most people do. Electric cars can be fun but will never be AS FUN as driving a 1.000kg sports coupe with nothing but an engine and a manual transmission, RWD and an LSD through my beloved mountain roads. Rpms capping out at 8.000. You will never be able to convince me otherwise.

@wo-olfI know. You will never change your mind. Thankfully, the rest of the world disagrees, most especially China, Asia, India, the EU, and even third world countries. The electric vehicle is absolutely dominating in these markets, especially the big one, China. The war is already over. North America will recognize this soon enough.

      @wo-olf

@NeverHaveKidsit can be dominating even if it is less fun. That’s the case for most things nowadays.
Social media isn’t as fun as going out, still it’s dominating. Netflix isn’t as fun as the movies, still it’s dominating.

Something can be less fun and still the better choice for everyday life. It doesn’t make it more fun tho. It’s just more convenient.

I’m never going back to an ICE (age) car…

From someone who does actually drive evs I can tell you.
They are boring soleless yes they can pull quickly.
But that’s not the fun in a manual car.
Shifting up and rev matching when shifting down.
    The sound from the engine.
Anyone that says EVs are better has never actually driven a manual car .

That sound from the engine — it’s annoying as F on any trip of length. I know how to drive manual. After ten minutes in stop-and-go traffic, it sucks arse. I will never understand this nonsense about the desire for the “exhaust note,” especially these morons who put coffee can exhaust tips on a Honda Civic. It all sounds horrible. Noise pollution, and “look at me” peacocking. The battery electric vehicle revolution is exposing this nonsense.

I’ve driven manual cars and EVs are better.
Every time I get in my EV it puts a smile on my face.

I drove nothing but manuals for about 20 years. For over a decade we’ve had only auto and it’s just far more pleasant. The vast majority don’t care about broom broom noises and would rather it went away. EVs are a significant step on from auto, one pedal driving is just so friendly.

Worse on a track day, sure. But what do I care, I’ve never done one.

With a synchromesh gearbox there’s absolutely no need to rev match when changing down , you only need to rev match with a crash gearbox . But then every driver in the UK knows this as we learn to drive in manuals as opposed to US drivers who just get ” Driver Ed ” in an auto ……. Also Nicola is an experienced Motoring Journalist with nearly 20 years of experience .

Oh dear. Just go Brum Brum and waggle your left leg until you feel the pain of idiotic, robotic clutch and gear changes.
Ps. Pretty much everyone has driven a manual car, the same can’t be said for EV’s can it?

The thing that occurs to me when I hear stuff like that is the vast, vast, vast majority of us drive largely boring cars. Because cars are a tool for getting around (to most people) in relative comfort and we want to do it efficiently and without wasting money. Sure, many people will get hot hatch versions or M versions or whatever and let’s be fair, they’re no different on the school run or going to the shops. Maybe if you ever take it on a track day.

But in the realm of dull, functional cars that 90% of us inhabit there is no doubt EVs are far more fun. I’ve got a Hyundai Ioniq Electric, a staggeringly boring car. Exciting cars aren’t used as taxis a lot. But with the low centre of gravity and instant torque it’s far more fun than it should be. A friend has an ID4, probably the equivalent of a diesel Passat from years ago. But it has nearly 300 bhp. That’s ridiculous.

The VRs version is 5.4 seconds. So yes, her statement is a bit of hyperbole but that’s pretty rapid.

Well why don’t you tell the truth and stop with the agenda talk about the EVs with issues talk about the body roll and how the weight of the batteries make the car heavy and also they do have body roll the were and tare on the tyres from the weight and all the plastic in them no you just make money promoting EVs all of you car reviewers aren’t mechanics just talk the same lingo every review is almost identical may vary a little but you know SFA about cars for the most part

Try listening where she explains the low centre of gravity and the positive driving impact it has.
The weight issue is ridiculously over played. Try worrying about, pollution and climate change.

I’d like to see your source backing up your statement about electric car drivers not wanting to go back to ICE cars.

YouTube and other social media sites is filled with details about electric car drivers wanting to get rid of their kiddy toy cars and go back to real cars, but being unable to get rid of the battery car because nobody wants them. Probably the most well known is a guy who has a Porsche Taycan that he wants to get rid of and return to a real car, but even the dealer he bought it from won’t take it.

The second-hand car market also does not want them as no-one wants to take the chance on a second-hand battery that could potentially leave them stranded on a motorway after a few miles.
