New BMW 1 Series Review: Too Much Tech?!

Modification your car with :

The 1 Series has been upgraded!

The smallest cars and truck in 's range has actually had a mid-life facelift. But is it the very best small vehicle you can purchase in 2024? Or should you consider an Audi A3, Mercedes A-Class or Golf rather?

Well in regards to the style, the updated 1 Series definitely looks the part – once the M Sport package has actually been added, a minimum of! The front end includes an aggressive-looking bumper which helps provide it an enforcing search the roadway. Along the side you'll find red brake callipers in addition to some black trim around the windows, while the alloy size begins at 17 inches, increasing to 18" like we have here. There's a little boot spoiler at the back, although we're uncertain about the appearance of the phony diffuser, and the exhaust tips are hidden, which is a pity.

On the inside the looks quite clever. There are soft-touch materials up high on the dash and doors, and there's a widescreen infotainment and digital dial display that stretches throughout the interior. The infotainment system fasts and responsive, and the dial screen is an improvement on the older system. Thanks to the addition of the M Sport package, the automobile is fitted with very comfy M Sport seats, in addition to the typical tricolour design to the seatbelts. Nevertheless, reach a bit lower in the cabin and some inexpensive, scratchy plastics can be discovered on the interior.

Concerning engine options, BMW has actually removed the diesel option from the variety. As a result, there are now three choices to select from, with the range beginning with the 120 – a 1..5-litre 3-cylinder turbo combined with a mild hybrid system that can deliver 170hp. Next up is the 123 xDrive, a 2-litre turbo fuel with 218hp, while the range-topper is the 2-litre turbo from the M135i, which can deliver 300hp.

The brand- starts from around ₤ 31,000, once a couple of choices are added, the price can rise by numerous thousand pounds The car we evaluated expenses over ₤ 43,000, and it's not even the range-topping M135i! So is it worth it? You'll require to stick with Mat and see on your own!

      You realize by comparing it to a Kia Ceed you show two things:
      1) You know notihng about cars.
      2) You’ve never even sat in this BMW, let alone drove it.

      Comparing this to a Ceed is like comparing a Mercedes E class to a Skoda Octavia. In fact, it’s an even bigger gap. That’s how much better the BMW 1 series is in absolutely every way. World class chassis, best hatch on the market right now and possibly ever in terms of how it drives and handles, super refined and grown up feeling, excellent noise insulation, the interior materials and build quality is better than ever, for people who cry about cost cutting, go actually sit in this car and you’ll see the reality. Seats are excellent, seating position perfect, etc. Again, people hate on something just to feel cool. And the amount of likes on every “looks like a Kia” comment proves this. You’re all sheeple.

    I work with a guy who is an ex bmw engineer. What he told me was that unlike the old days (90s early 2000s) it costs BMW almost nothing in production between a BMW M sport body kit car and a normal bmw car (true M cars like the M3/M5 are different).
    Basically the M-trim cars cost almost nothing more to produce than standard cars, they literally just are different looking parts and the production numbers are huge so its not like it costs the more to make Msport cars due to low production. In the 90s/2000s M trim cars were actually very low production so they did actually cost significantly more to build.

    So essentially, its just a money making excuse, BMW knows they can’t charge what they want for the cars, so they sell these “M” trim model upgrades to make the buyer think they are getting a much more valuable car, but its basically just a version of bumpers and plastic bits that the base car could have had as stock, since its pretty much purely aesthetics and very minor at that. Very few base model BMWs are sold these days, M trim cars are what the company pushes and they are actually much more common than a lowly base model without those options.

    1. @Rocco532 Avatar
      @Rocco532

      Hmm you forgot that on M sport models other than bumper kit, wheels, black roof lining, and other non important drivers stuff.
      You do get actual driving enhancements, sports lower suspension, more direct steering rack, quicker gearbox (software) and on rear wheel drive models (the only worth buying Bmw’s) an lsd (I’m talking about 2 series coupe).
      So there is definitely a price point difference on those driver parts.
      But up until recently it was possible to order these specific driver focused parts without the bumper part not anymore.

    2. @Loekie-de-leeuw Avatar
      @Loekie-de-leeuw

      The same is for every German car for many years. What changed is that the standard trim has become significantly less designed/beautiful, almost forcing you to tick the M-kit. 10 years ago I often preferred the standard kit, while nowadays a standard trim (e.g., 5-series) looks like they purposely made it look cheaper.
