Mk7 Golf GTI v Mk4 R32: DRAG RACE

Modification your car with :

It's time for a Volkswagen hot hatch face-off!

We have actually got our hands on the Mk7 Performance, and it's about to go head-to-head against a Mk4 ! However will the more recent cars and truck be able to nab the win? Let's take a better look at the statistics.

Starting with the , it's powered by a 3.2-litre naturally-aspirated V6 that can produce 241hp and 320Nm of torque. This power is sent out to all 4 wheels through a 6-speed automated gearbox, and the vehicle suggestions the scales at 1,477 kg. When this car was launched in the early 2000s, it cost around ₤ 22,300.

Then we concern the GTI. Under the bonnet there's a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo that produces 245hp and 370Nm, and this power is directed to the front wheels just through a 7-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle weighs in at 1,387 kg, and when new, it would set you back around ₤ 29,800.

So the GTI is slightly up on power, however will the R32's 4×4 show definitive? There's only one way to find out for sure … LET'S RACE!

    Protip: If you want an R32 for cheap, buy an 8P A3 3.2 Quattro. Basically the same car underneath as a MkV R32 but way, way cheaper because they’re not as well known. I’ve had one as my daily for a few years and still loving that VR6 sound.

      For those who go this route and decide to modify the motor, keep in mind it is NOT an R32 engine. 8P 3.2 engine is code BUB – R32 is CBRA, mostly the same but with one crucial difference, the R32 has a forged crankshaft, A3 is cast. If you want more power, get a forged crank!

    4. @deez5120 Avatar
      @deez5120

      @@EVoMVP Where’d you read this? I’ve looked everywhere online and can’t find a single source that says anything other than all of the 3.2 vr6 engines contained a forged crankshaft.

      The bub engine was used until 2008 on all models containing the 3.2 vr6 engine, until replaced by the cbra engines in 2008
