Let’s be real, a “sexy Prius” with terrible A pillars, terrible rear room and a halo car price tag is just Toyota is squandering itself by moving everything more upmarket and that recipe is turning out badly for VW while Chinese EVs are looming large.

The one number to note is that the Prius has had a colossal power bump. The previous Prius Prime PHEV has a total combined output of 122hp – this new one has 223hp, an increase of nearly 55%. Much more useful and one upon a time, hot hatch territory.

@@1958plymouth440V8 contribute that to Toyota’s overall incompetence a d indifference to PHEVs.
The previous Prius Prime PHEV had an all electric output of over 80bhp but that full power was not utilized with the engine. Potentially it could’ve had over 170bhp if Toyota bothered to change the software inside the motor controllers.

I honestly love it and am glad they changed their minds and brought this over to the UK. Hands down the best looking Prius BY FAR. I want one in yellow!

All the uber drivers in london seem to drive Kia e-Niros these days – they’ve realised that BEV running costs make it a no brainer!

If you press the back button on steering wheel, the drivers display will show just the ” main circle”. The additional information is optional.

They overshot with sportiness, but “prius plus” body would be a real hit, as with proper interior space it would be real pearl

@@aka7kak8 They squandered it , yes. A halo Prius is fun and all but pretentious and short sighted without a “Prius plus” and other variety

Try getting a Prius in Australia or New Zealand, you need to import – go to Toyota’s websites and you get a message that the Prius has been discontinued.

    Massive big MEH to that.

Interesting review Doug. We are currently running a Toyota Yaris Cross (23) and partly due to your review. 64mpg in the real world and even with 115bhp, not slow as a hybrid. Other car is a 20 plate RAV4 hybrid, 4WD that is used off road a lot and currently approx 46mpg. Both seem really robust! Wish I could still run an estate as well but boot in RAV 4 I ok. Cheers

A very impressive car. Test drove one last year when they were introduced in Ireland. It’s remarkably good to drive which I wasn’t expecting

The A pillar looks very low compared to head position. Seeing traffic lights up close might also be an issue with the low roof line. I suspect the full hybrid Corolla is a better buy and more practical.

I can’t see this car improving on the previous model in sales as the last one, I can see why they didn’t want to import it in the first place.
