New Porsche Macan revealed: I’m totally SHOCKED!

Say hello to the brand Macan!

Porsche's mini SUV has had a major revamp for 2024, and there's one essential difference – it's gone fully ! That's right, the ICE-powered Macan is officially gone permanently. But does this all- SUV have what it takes to win over the Porsche faithful?

Well, let's take a closer appearance. Beginning with the outside design, the brand- doesn't stray too far from the old Macan. Beginning at the front the grille has been swapped for a larger, lower air intake, and the new headlights are nearly precisely the same as what you'll find on the Taycan. The side-on shape is nearly identical to the previous Macan, and while there have actually been a couple of design modifications to the rear end, we do not believe it's that much of an enhancement compared to the old design!

Action inside and the is pretty similar to the Taycan. However obviously, that's no bad thing! The chauffeur gets a curved screen, there's a large infotainment screen in the middle, and even the front guest gets their own screen built into the dash! As you 'd anticipate the cabin is jam-packed filled with high-quality, soft-touch materials, and the seats look super comfy.

Something this all-electric Macan isn't short on is efficiency! The entry-level dual-motor can produce 408hp, while the top-of-the-range Turbo can put down 640hp and an eye-watering 1,130 Nm of torque – that's 80Nm more than the Taycan Turbo S! Porsche likewise declares it ought to be able to hit 60mph in simply 3.3 seconds.

The brand-new Macan will begin at around ₤ 70,000, increasing to around ₤ 95,000 for the Turbo edition. However is it worth it ?! You'll require to stick with Mat and see on your own!

While I”m biased here as the owner of two such interior designed cars (Taycan 4S CT and Cayenne E-Hybrid), I have to agree. The tablet inspired mostronsities occupying centre console space on so many new vehicles feel like a great divide between driver and passenger, isolating us from each other in much the same way bad tech had done for our social engagement. I’m confident this idea has not been lost on the designers at Porsche.

I think what manufacturers are going to find is that hybrids are required in colder climates. So expect some sort of internal combustion no matter what. People have been losing half their range in cold weather plus degradation and are taking major depreciation losses on electric cars mainly because of the cost of battery repairs or replacement.

My wife has been wanting the GTS. We really like this one too, but the quotes to make our 6 year old house compatible with a charger (when looking at the Grand Cherokee 4xe) were astronomical. I think that may the be the biggest barrier of entry for us on electric vehicles.

  17. @timk3939 Avatar

The Macan likely has a smaller frontal area than the model Y, which will mean its drag difference is less than the CD figures alone indicate. The overall drag is measured by multiplying the CD (drag coefficient) by the frontal area A, giving CDA. This is what dictates overall aerodynamic drag , the CDA, not the CD.

The old Macan had a frontal area of 2.61 sq. m, the new one is quoted as being “less than the old one” (I could not find a figure), and the Model Y is quoted at 2.65 for frontal area. So the difference betwen the two, is less the the CD numbers alone suggest. (0.25 and 0.23). Think of a brick, it has very poor aerodynamics (poor CD) but a small area (A), so it will take less energy to push through the air than an EV, you need to factor in the area part of the equation as well as drag coefficient to give the overall picture.

The Tesla model 3 has exactly the same CD as the Model Y, but 20% less frontal area, so the CDA is 20% less. The 3 should be more efficient at a constant high speed cruise, if the motor etc. has similar efficiency.

I will be surprised if it actually gets the 4 miles per kWh that it claims, but that would be pretty awesome for a vehicle of this size/weight to do that! That would be even better than the Bolt EV’s efficiency.
