1,100hp M2 v Lambo Huracan Perf: DRAG RACE

Does a RWD Red Bull drift cars and truck have what it requires to beat an AWD Lambo in a straight line?!

Check out new and used cars and truck deals with Carwow:

It's time for a drag race with one of the craziest M2s we have actually ever seen!

We have actually got our hands on a Red Bull BMW M2 – and it's been transformed into a drift vehicle! So we're going to see if a car that's produced cornering at severe speed has what it requires to beat a Lamborghini in a straight line!

Does it stand a chance? Let's take a better take a look at the statistics …

The Red Bull M2 is powered by a BMW S58 engine. However, instead of having twin turbos, this 3-litre straight-six instead includes one single (yet enormous!) turbo, and the power output has been increased to an unbelievable 1,100 hp and 1,200 Nm! All of this power is sent to the rear wheels only through a 5-speed sequential gearbox, and being a drift cars and truck, it's super light, tipping the scales at around 1,400 kg.

When it comes to the Lambo, it's the Huracan Performante! That means it's powered by a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 that provides 640hp and 600Nm. It sends that power to all four wheels via a dual-clutch automated gearbox, and it weighs in at 1480kg. So it's a little heavier than the Red Bull, however it does include all-wheel drive!

However, ought to the Lambo show too powerful, Mat's also got his hands on a basic BMW M2! It's method down on power compared to the Red Bull car, with only 480hp & 600Nm. What's more, this power is sent to the rear wheels only, much like the Red Bull.

The question is, does a car with a deficit of more than 600hp really stand a chance?! There's only one way to discover for sure … LET'S RACE!

Thanks to everyone who helped establish this race:

    Please! End every race with a consecutive drone shot and trap speeds!

    We got absolutely NO feeling of how fast the cars are…

      Its tune wasn’t calibrated for top end speed. That’s why it looked slower than a usual drag racing 1.100hp car. It was calibrated for low end torque for drifting not top end speed.

      I was thinking the exact same thing. I understand that the other car is not set up or designed for straight line performance but 1000 hp is 1000 hp that Lambo did really good with a car close to almost double the amount of horsepower.

    1100hp through the rear wheels in a drift car sounds like a traction nightmare! ☠

    1. @bjarnis Avatar
      @bjarnis

      It’s not set up for drag, with a few adjustments to suspension etc and practice he would beat that Lambo with ease every time.

    2. @stubones Avatar
      @stubones

      That has 650 at the wheels at best in that map. Its 1100 is flywheel anyway, not WHP.

      @d3lyxoomusic103

    Thanks, guys, it was such a fun day! Between diff-ratio, gear-ratios, programmed power-curve and the launch control in Elias’ feet, it put the power down like proper drift car. Not necessarily what you’re looking for in drag. We sure learned a little something and might do better next time. 😅

      There was a clear improvement in throttle control at first gear throughout the drag races, really amazing what the driver achieved in a drift car off the line, not losing by much against a 4WD performante.

    4. @huey_sometimes_gio Avatar
      @huey_sometimes_gio

      I don’t care seeing the improvement across the races to fight for just an ounce of traction on drag is insane!!! YOU BEAT AWD LEARNING TO FIGHT THE LACK OF TRACTION YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING MY G🗣️🔥‼️

    5. @fenixspider5776 Avatar
      @fenixspider5776

      yeah probably the mid gears being taller than normal sports (I assume drift cars are tuned this way to stay in lower gears while drifting) cars probably killed a lot of your momentum even after you get some grip on your rear tyres. But still a great watch, lovely dynamics with you and matt.
