This is the brand-new Peugeot 408!

The 408 has actually gone through a mid-life facelift, so rather than undergoing a full overhaul, a couple of functions and elements have actually been upgraded.

The concern is, are the updates enough to steer you away from key competitors like the Cupra Formentor? Let's take a better look …

Starting with the style, there are a couple of updates, most especially at the front. There's a brand new grille, while the front air intakes have also been updated. The long, fang-like DRLs have actually also been eliminated, rather changed with smaller, 3-line lights. Along the side, there are new alloy wheels, and around the back, the badge has been changed with the brand's name in the full-length light bar.

On the inside, Peugeot has kept the interior more or less the same as the previous model. There are some brand-new products high up on the dash, brand-new kick plates have been added, and new dial screen graphics have been included. Otherwise, it's the very same as in the past, which suggests there's a laggy and unintuitive infotainment screen, a decent amount of storage, and a customisable screen for your key features and functions.

There are two engine alternatives available for the 408, and they're both hybrids. The entry-level is a 1.2-litre gas combined with a self-charging motor, and this produces 145hp. There's also a 1.6-litre plug-in hybrid, and this produces 240hp. Both automobiles are front wheel drive.

The entry-level 408 starts from around ₤ 32,000, increasing all the way to ₤ 38,760 for the range-topper. So is it worth it? You'll require to stick to Mat to see for yourself!

Very nice car, but like in the previous gen they are killing it with the engine selection. The shitty 1.2 or you have to pay a lot more for the plug in to get decent power. Electric is not even worth mentioning with that small battery…

Battery size is irrelevant. It’s the efficiency that matters. A larger battery is actually counterproductive because of the weight.

@HK.Buildsweight actually doesn’t matter that much in evs

@HK.Builds Good point! Low consumption can be more valuable than simply adding more battery capacity.

@Mr_Zegaa It matters less than in ICE cars, but it definitely still matters. Regenerative braking helps offset some of the extra weight…

The 408 looks like a concept car that accidentally made production.

Very nice car, but I think you’d like the 1.6L plug-in hybrid a lot more than the 1.2L

Tiny 17s? I remember when they were considered large wheels. The McLaren F1 had 17s so why does a family wagon need 19s? It doesn’t.

Exactly and the bigger wheels are often heavier and less comfortable

i always find carwow reviews like flipping a coin. For example here he doesn’t like the interior of the car however, he was praising it on the 308, despite it being the exact same interior. Or another one where he was having a go at the dials on a range rover sport(one where you press the dials to cycle the different options fan speed, audio, heated seats and then twist) saying he doesn’t like them but then praises the same concept and execution on a new skoda superb. Seems like some of his reviews are more dependent on what side of the bed hes woken up on and how he feels about the company on that one particular day.

i agree. and i think if you go back to the pre facelift 408 review, he was more positive. I don’t know, he felt really dismissive of the car from the start of the video this time. I’ve got an order for one, have only had good experience with more recent Peugeots. Both mine and in my family, and this one really looks insane design-wise, and when I went to a dealer to get a feel for it, liked it even more. Interesting.

@YiannisMorfos what colour you have ordered? Also have you tried these gt sport seats? Are they comfortable. For me they are very hard and not good for sitting. But i am 1.90 so that gives that feeling. But still they are too sporty in this car. What i like is design, but still thinking to buy or not.

@YiannisMorfosnice i also really like this new green, it fits very well to 408, even better than prefacelift blue. Other colours are nice but not unique. Good buy this new 408, i agree and nice to hear that sitting is good for you as sitting comfort is very important.

As a non-native english listening/speaking ,the volume/loudness of mat’s voice during interior section seem not consistent and it just get louder suddenly when he’s mentioning the backseat. Although the transcript is very helpful. 🙂
