2026 BMW iX5 review: BMW’s most important EV yet?

The brand-new BMW iX5 arrives at a fascinating time for premium electrical SUVs, facing competitors from the Porsche Cayenne Electric, Volvo EX90, Variety Rover Electric, BYD, Denza and Xpeng. On paper it looks hugely capable, but we'll reserve final judgement till we've driven it later on this year.

      Closest you can get is the Chinese SC01, which is $32k even over there. Heck, a Miata is $30k, so frankly, you’re delusional.

    Feels like a massive battery for the sake of getting a headline range figure. Does anyone really need more than 250/300 in one go?

    Anyone with a 6 hour charging window on 7kw will only add 42kw seems insane.

    Drop the battery size and efficiency would probably improve also.

    Well, all around good, but I agree that some of this electronic stuff will end up breaking just after the warranty expires. Also, who needs a self-opening door?

    Not a fan of the outside looks, but inside looks good, what is with the asymmetric design these days? First the screen now the steering wheel looks wonky too.
    Bring back order and symmetry.

    I kind of hate the shared platform idea. Yes it is very economic for BMW, but it means the car has ALL the disadvantages of every drivetrain, and none of the advantages. Which is probably why the frunk/froot is just big enough for a newspaper.
