    Initially they announced that the cybertruck would have a stressed member body, that is the body would be panels that added strength to the frame like a monocoque race car. Now I’m reading that the body panels are just bonded in place and a chassis is providing the strength.

      The dividing line between those two variants during the design process would probably be the pre-beancounter phase and the post-beancounter-phase.

    to spend 40- 100k on a truck that can’t haul anything is absurd. to find out it’s partly glued together sounds like a scam. I’ll PASS

      Lots of cars are glued together for leak-proofing and prevent moisture from getting inside welded joints. Not for important structural or safety stuff that isn’t held down in any other secondary way.

    Shame how driving slightly over the speed limit can get you pulled over and fined for being a danger on the road but driving a car that can randomly launch a 1.4mm thick stainless steel panel in any direction on that same highway is ok.

  18. @teardowndan5364 Avatar
    @teardowndan5364

    An “exoskeleton” is an integral part of the body’s structure. Deadly stainless steel cosmetic panels glued on top of the frame are not an exoskeleton. If they were, loss of body panels from glue failure would cause structural failure of the truck itself on top of becoming a deadly road hazard for others.
