Mercedes’s new E-Motor Bet Will Change The Entire EV Industry!

An innovative axial flux motor from YASA, gotten by Mercedes in 2021, is poised to change electrical propulsion. Weighing simply 13 kilograms– lighter than a suitcase– this pancake-shaped model delivers an incredible peak of 750 kilowatts, over 1,000 horsepower, in a package half the size of conventional radial flux motors. Its design aligns magnets and coils axially, producing closer interactions and larger area for magnetic flux, yielding unmatched power density approximately 59 kW/kg. While peak output thrills, continuous power settles at 350-400 kW (470-535 horsepower), demanding advanced cooling to handle heat. YASA's yokeless, segmented armature removes bulk, enhancing effectiveness and torque for electrical vehicles, aerospace, and renewables. Currently in production at their Oxford facility, these motors power hybrids like the Ferrari SF90 and are slated for Mercedes' AMG.EA platform by mid-2026. This tech slashes EV weight, extends range, and speeds up the shift from fossil fuels, challenging market norms with compact, high-performance innovation that could redefine mobility and energy systems worldwide.

What about PCB stators? Could they be intergrated to a YASA motor, reducing its weight even more?

It will break all the time or have some other type of issue just like any other Mercedes right now

If I’d known it was going to be a YasaMecedes infomercial I’d have skipped it.

I hope this will enable smaller, cheaper and easier ICE car conversion kits

It won’t change anything, the EV grift is coming to an end. The vast majority of people don’t want them and without government subsidies and tax breaks, which are becoming increasingly unaffordable, they would sell hardly any.
