Who’s the TOUGHEST 4×4 EVER! Toyota v Land Rover v Mercedes

We're evaluating 3 pre-owned SUVs over a series of difficulties on an off-road course to see which offers the very best worth for its ₤ 2,000 price tag.

Explore brand-new and used vehicle handle Carwow:

We have actually got our hands on three second-hand SUVs, each valued at less than ₤ 2,000, and we're visiting whether they can survive over a series of off-road challenges!

We've got a Land Rover Discovery 3 from 2005, a Mercedes ML from 2005, and a Toyota Land Cruiser from 2002!

But will they have the ability to endure these severe off-road challenges ?! Let's see what each automobile is dealing with …

Starting with the Discovery 3, it's powered by a 2.7-litre V6 that produces 190hp and 440Nm. It's geared up with a 6-speed handbook and weighs 2,419 kg. It was first released in 2005, we bought it for ₤ 1,500, and it presently has 256,000 miles on the clock.

Up next is the Mercedes ML. There's a 2.7-litre inline-5 turbo diesel under the bonnet, and this produces 163hp and 400Nm. It's geared up with a 5-speed automated gearbox, weighs around 2,100 kg, and was released in 2005. We purchased it for ₤ 1,800, and it has 140,000 miles on the clock.

Lastly, we concern the Land Cruiser. It's powered by a 4.7-litre V8, and this puts down 235hp and 434Nm. It rolls up with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and it weighs 2,260 kg. It was initially released in 2002, and although it was originally bought for ₤ 5,000, it's just worth around ₤ 2,000 now. To date, it's run around 282,000 miles.

So which do you think will come out on top? And more notably, will any of the cars even make it to the end of this video?! Stick with Mat, Sam & Nick to see for yourself!

      dude of course, because they show a lot of the same scenes from different perspectives, which is fun to watch. it’s normal. and then he’s explaining the challenge, comparing the times and whatnot. i really don’t understand what you’re complaining about, if you’re in such a hurry go do something else.

    Even with all its flaws the Discovery 3 still proves itself as one of the best off roaders ever built i’m shocked it survived

      @carholic-sz3qv

      lol!!!!! the toyota has its flaws too and it survived even with a punctured tire.

    2. @Heizenberg-c3d Avatar
      @Heizenberg-c3d

      I was thinking of this exactly, towards the end of the video. Makes me wonder, what it could’ve been if Land Rovers as a whole, were serviced at normal intervals of up to 15k kms, hence the *recommended* ones of nearly twice as that, because lets face it, people who bought and still buy them new, are not going to be so mechanically inclined and therefore not understand, at least not fully, what that does to an engine, especially when it’s a brand new one and has to be ran in. I reckon, it would’ve put them in the higher median of all the premium brands in terms of reliability and when you take in consideration all the things, that they were already famous for, like their undeniable off-road ability, stylish looks and pretty good interiors, it does become a quite irresistible package.

    3. @carholic-sz3qv Avatar
      @carholic-sz3qv

      @Heizenberg-c3d the same argument applies to the other two vehicles in the video too, its not a 100 fair test since everyone has different driving techniques/experience and we dont know how the vehicles have been serviced for their entire lives.

      That’s exactly what I was thinking why didn’t he put the spare tire on Yes you lose one point but you would gain one as well because the car wouldn’t be getting confused and you’d have much better control so you could go even faster
