This is the all-new Chery Tiggo 4!

Mat's got his hands on this inexpensive household vehicle to see if this newest offering from China has enough to sway you far from more established competitors like the Renault Captur and Volkswagen T-Roc.

So let's enter into it, starting with the design.

On first glance, it's simple to see that the Tiggo 4 designers have actually taken motivation from several other cars. The front end looks similar to a DS7, the rear and side profile appearance similar to a T-Roc, and the back end appears like a VW Tiguan! Ultimately though, it still looks wise. The big grille helps it stick out, and around the back there are cool-looking taillights and a full-length light bar.

So while the exterior might seem a bit all over the location, it's a lot more premium experience on the within. There are soft-touch materials throughout the cabin, there are different buttons for the environment control, and the infotainment & digital dials screen are clear and simple to use. There's a whole load of storage throughout, and the front seats are pretty comfy, even if they are missing out on lumbar support.

Under the bonnet you'll discover a 1.5-litre hybrid fuel engine that can deliver an outstanding 204hp! It has a leading speed of 93mph, and can accelerate to 60mph in 8.9 seconds.

The Chery Tiggo 4 is a seriously economical automobile. The entry-level starts at just ₤ 19,995, while the range-topper (that we have in this video) costs simply ₤ 21,995! That seriously damages competitors like the Dacia Duster and Renault Captur, so is the Tiggo 4 the wise option if you're looking for a brand-new cars and truck? Stick to Mat and see for yourself!

    The Chinese companies understand that people want affordable.. and need it! Lowkey here for it!!

    1. @mediocreman2 Avatar
      @mediocreman2

      It’s not the companies. It’s the government. They subsidize any product that competes with mainstream products in order to dominate the market because people will always try to save money.

    2. @cabbageboio Avatar
      @cabbageboio

      These cars are cheaper artificially, the Chinese government subsidises these cars, and get free shipping due to the world trade organisation treating china as a third world country. If these companies were selling these cars without a subsidy and free shipping they would be making a huge loss

      Mate a BYD Sealion 7 is far from affordable here 😭😭😭. I configured one on the website and the base starting price is £45k for a Comfort trim (lowest trim level on that car). The Excellence trim is £50k easily 😳😳😳

      Yeah, because Australia is sold out to the Chinese. Better start brushing up on your Mandarin. They’ll be looking south after they deal with Taiwan.

      Chinese government dumping product on the market until everyone else goes bust. Then the price will rise. They did exactly that for the UK steel industry.

    5. @travellinginawhat Avatar
      @travellinginawhat

      @dxg999literally not how that works. The price rose BC the country puts tarrifs on anything coming in from China and so many other factors. Leave it to British and the Americans to call cheap and decent products a bad thing for capitalism.

      @nothingsurprisesmeanymore

      And it’s the UK government adding 10% import tariff and 20% vat on top of that. Greedy government as usual plus dealer profit. If it wasn’t for that these cars would be £10k for the range topper.

      I mean I personally don’t think CCP sponsored products are good, but yes new cars are expensive which sucks.

    3. @SgtKanyo Avatar
      @SgtKanyo

      AFAIK 1 reason they are that cheap is because the chinese government funds their companies. These companies are not even neccessarily operate with profit, that’s how “cheap” they are.
      Unfortunately everything has gotten more expensive, therefor cars got more expensive as well.
      If we don’t buy european products though, they’ll be even more expensive and because those get more expensive, everything else will get more expensive.

    4. @chp9450 Avatar

    This car has been on sale since like 2019 in brazil, and its been refreshed a couple times both the interior and exterior. There ppl with tiggos with thousands and thousand of km on those 1.5liter engines, and i havent heard of issues.

      Да бро, в России аналогичная история. Машины хорошо себя зарекомендовали, в многих таксопарках и каршерингах закупают именно их. Уже много машин с пробегом больше 300 000 километров без каких-то серьезных поломок.

      @andresbastanchuri3666 Only the 1st gen Tiggo (2009) used a Mitsubishi engine. Modern Caoa Chery Tiggo models use Chery’s own ACTECO engines (1.5T and 1.6T).

      @tenpoundburrito

      Funny how Japan in the 1970s and South Korea in the 1990s never declared that their intent was to take over the world. Funny how neither of them used forced labor at those times. Funny how Europeans support a Chinese government that treats Muslims worse than Israel does just so they can save a few pounds.

      Actually, that last one makes sense. They also were all for American cotton, Brazilian rubber, and Caribbean sugar, so Chinese cars is just another on the list.

    3. @primusro Avatar
      @primusro

      Funny how Europe will get fucked hard by China once the car industry is taken over as well. Can’t wait to see the face of these Chinese enthusiasts when they will discover that everything was a well directed and well supplied takeover.

    1. @ocereijo Avatar
      @ocereijo

      Ebro (named after the river) used to build Ford Thames (also named after the river) trucks. Chinese missed the chance to close the cicle selling Chery as Thames in the UK… 😅

    Sort of surprised that the most logical competitor, the MG ZS+, isn’t mentioned, as it is similarly sized and cheap, has same warranty, is Chinese and a Hybrid as well; Probably a lot more cross shopped than a VW product with a Chery.

    1. @Glotttis Avatar
      @Glotttis

      I don’t know.. in my country these upper tier Chinese (BYD,MG etc) cost almost the same as korean/japanese/european cars. So then most people think “whats the point, why even bother with chinese car”. I guess that’s why adoption of chinese cars failed in Europe. Isn’t BYD surviving hard times nowadays?

  15. @A2KLAU Avatar
    @A2KLAU

    This is definitely targeted at the Uber driver or cheap daily commuter car for the masses. The Chinese brands know there is no point fighting for a shrinking enthusiast market and instead shift in volume to people who want good value mobility from A to B.

    1. @jxmai1000 Avatar

    2. @A2KLAU Avatar
      @A2KLAU

      @jxmai1000we’re still very much behind the Australia market when it comes to Chinese brands. Might be cause it’s easier to convert for right hand drive for AU than it is here in UK, and probably more acceptance and cheaper prices than here.

    It is built in Spain as the Ebro S400 and in Italy as the DR 4.0. The UK should really push for a manufacturing plant to start to build these things too, to bring down the cost further. The Ebro plant here in Spain also makes the larger S700, S800 and S900 models and apparently the Omoda 5 too.

    1. @alexsmith979 Avatar

      Chery recently signed a deal with Nissan to build their cars at the Sunderland factory. It will only be a matter of time before Chery, Omoda and Jaecoo models are made in the UK
