Land Rover Defender 90 – First month of ownership could prove expensive ! | 4K

My very first month of living with the Protector 90 75th Anniversary Edition could show extremely costly as we absolutely enjoy it and do not want to provide it back! However it is not perfect. The Protector 90 has the fastest wheelbase of the variety and this means the boot is not that huge. For our lifestyle that isn't really an issue however it could be for a household requiring more load space.

As always a big thanks to The Hendy Group for supporting the channel. Running the Protector 90 as a long termer is just wonderful and opens the doors to great deals of cool material.

I like the body-coloured wheels. The original Land Rover had steel wheels that were painted body-colour, so this scheme makes stylistic sense. Tired of all the funereal black wheels myself… It’s as though customers are embarrassed to reveal their vehicles have rubber tyres… When Land Rover make this model an EV, they’ll really have done something! I like the overall design. Glad to hear you and all the Peds enjoy it!

Love the Defender but with 2 dogs and one of them a leggy Dalmatian I would opt for the 110. Which engine? – the V8 obviously 😁 I actually followed a 90 on the way to my local shop this evening, up a narrow Cornish country lane and they are rather chunky. I think the 110’s balance it out by being a fair bit longer. A neighbour has a 110 hybrid and I always give it admiring looks in his drive when I walk past with my dogs. Alas though, it just be a dream car for me 😒. Keep up the great work Ped – brilliant as always πŸ‘

I quite fancied the commercial 90 at launch in green with the white roof and white steel wheels but they have made it special order I think as a commercial vehicle. I can definitely appreciate the car you are in Pete but it is hideously expensive in that spec.

      It is quite pricey 😬

If the wheels were the steelies rather than the alloys it would look amazing in that colour. I know there were limitations with the bigger engine defenders having bigger brakes but I’m sure it could have been made possible

Saw the same car and colourway, inc the wheels during a visit to N Devon – said that before. I thought it looked grand!.
Not sure about the idea of swapping the silver for black.
Nice to hear you’re (both) happy with the beast and I love the thought of a 3L straight 6 diesel. The boot space looks like it would struggle with our planned 2 folding E bikes. Mind you, finding the dosh to buy one would be more than a struggle. but if you can afford it, why not? Looking forward to the the report. D

Thinking that the silver part of the spare wheel cover and the external gear box would look better in matching body colour.

Will be a tough day when you have to sell the Porsche to help finance the 90 but will make a good YouTube video.

Dont think you needed locked rear diff or even centre diff engaged for that track but its nice to have them available.

Finally a car reviewer admitting its more of a Disco 5 than a replacement for the old Defender !

I tried a 90 D200 myself two years ago here in Belgium and I loved it. It’s a proper SUV! In the end I didn’t buy it because my lifestyle doesn’t ask for a rugged SUV and by 2030 the diesel will probably not be allowed in many places. But the Defender is so lovable!

First car I would buy funds permitting no question but the 110 even though I am a bigger fan of the 90 in the previous generation. Having driven 3 separate new variant 110’s including some serious off roading in the snow up a Scottish mountain I think it is without doubt the perfect all round car. I was not a fan of the colour scheme until I saw this heritage version outside one of the game keepers houses on the Royal Estate at Balmoral and it certainly fits the bill there. There were three examples at Jaguar Braehead Glasgow recently and not so much. The only thing to watch is if you are continually doing short journeys the DPF filter doesn’t like that and a longer journey is required to clear it out. With regards accessories a snorkel is a pre requisite as you never know when the next dust storm from the Sahara is about to strike and the rear view mirror camera system, as it is brilliant after the 5th minute of use.

Β£86k is ridiculous, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser at about Β£50k looks incredible value, wish Toyota would do a SWB Land Cruiser too!

I get JLR had to move on from the old defender. I have a 2014 puma 110 as a working vehicle. Great on the farm, poor on the road. But having the pain of 12 months ownership of a Disco 5 and the incompetence of two Hendy main dealers, I wouldnt buy JLR again. Design is great but reliability and dealer support questionable

Took a 90 out at Eastnor for the Land Rover Experience, incredible off road, so capable, thoroughly recommend to anyone as it’s a giggle and makes a change from track days, those cameras looking at the front wheels become invaluable, and wading to the point of submerging the front camera was interesting (Think it’s at approx 90cm if I remember correctly). I love the look of them, and the interior is a fantastic place to be. Not the vehicle for me to own, but great fun none the less.

Always loved a LR. The new defender has grown on me, looks good in most colours I’ve seen. Have now seen a few ineos grenadiers locally as well I think in the style stakes defender has it. πŸ‘πŸ‘

I liked the 90 but found the width intimidating down the back roads and its why I sold my F Pace SVR which had the same issue . I’ve had the shoguns and land cruisers etc which seemed narrower but for most needs the Yeti was the best we had and still is but now replaced with a Q3 – 70% of our miles are towing btw.

Looks great! Love the colour and wheels as is! Reckon I’d have the dog wash box on the side, for the few times my Mini Schnauzer has got dirty πŸ˜…. Im glad you pointed out it would need a different tow bar bike rack, that didnt cross my mind! This car is very much on my wish list! Thanks for the video!

I like the silver bumper etc but still don’t like that clutter on the rear sides.
I really like the Defender, would have one if I could afford it.
