Lamborghini DYNO DRAG RACE

Thanks to Mark for providing us his vehicles: @MarkMcCann64
Thanks to Garage WhifBitz for hosting this video:

Have you ever questioned simply how precise Lamborghini's declared power output figures are? Well, we're about to put them to the test!

We've got our hands on a Lamborghini Huracan , an SVJ and an Urus Performante, and we're heading to the dyno to see just how precise their horse power figures are!

Each of these three comes geared up with a different engine & power output. The Huracan STO is initially up, and it gets here with a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 which can obviously produce 640hp. Following that we have the Urus Performante, which is packing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can pull 666hp. And after that lastly we have the daddy, the SVJ. This is packing a 6.5-litre V12 which can apparently put down 770hp. Or at least, that's what Lamborghini claims …

But that's not all! As well as finding out what their power output figures are, we'll also be sticking each and truck on the scales to discover how much they truly weigh!

How do you believe this one will play out – will the vehicles be putting down what Lamborghini says they are? And will they be lighter or heavier than their declared weight?! You'll require to stick with Mat and Mark to see for yourself!

Sell your with :

We have actually approached Lamborghini to discuss the weight discrepancy and are awaiting its action

I can only afford two of these at the moment, so I’m thankful to carwow for helping me decide.

@ISAK.M ISAK.M, seems like the Urus Performante had a big upperhand when doing dyno drag race.

@Sharkys Gaming and Lego wish we also see Super GT300 cars like ARTA GARAIYA and BP APEX AE86 Trueno doing these dyno drag races.

Hopefully we can do this with all porsche including the turbo gt, would like to see that compared to the Urus

@JWil97 the 992 Turbo S with Dyno Drag can have 819bhp after proper test.

@Just a YouTube Commenter the Urus and Panamera has 50bhp more than the standard after doing dyno.

@JWil97 “it gaps a SVJ on rolling race” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RurHZGQtbmg at 9:14 When did the turbo s ever gap the svj? With yanni behind the wheel, the turbo s got beaten by the svj on the roll lmao.

Yes, I thought exactly the same. It also came to mind that it might have still been on its run in period just like all new cars have. Definitely needs to have a rematch with another drag race

Wow, those figures are just mental when you take into mind the drivetrain loss. Please keep these Dyno tests incoming, though… You guys seem to be levelling up in the type of cars. From sporty hatchbacks to sporty estate vehicles to now Lamborghinis. What’s next; Bugatti’s?

    1. arekb5 Avatar
      arekb5

I just wonder how do they measure drivetrain loss, normally after a run you’d put the car in neutral and let it roll basically until it stops, that way the dyno knows exactly the drivetrain loss, here on the video they don’t measure it that way (at least it looks like that, because they’re braking and doing downshifts right after a run), adding up the typical drivetrain loss for a certain drivetrain won’t work because wheel horsepower measurement can be influenced by many factors such as the tyres, tyre temperature, gearbox and diff oil temperature, how hard you strap the car down to the dyno etc, so yeah, I’m just curious how did they calculate crank HP.

    2. Aspex Avatar
      Aspex

@arekb5 not sure how it works at all so disregard me if im saying something stupid, but they might have gotten the full figure from the dyno and then calculated the crank power from there

    3. Purwanti Allan Avatar
      Purwanti Allan

@arekb5 Seems like those cars must use some sort of special DNA for that.

    4. Ali Avatar
      Ali

@arekb5 how hard you start the car?? I’m pretty sure no one is going to not strap the car hard …

    5. arekb5 Avatar
      arekb5

@Ali it’s all about consistency, straps stretch a bit, the car settles on the dyno with successive runs and that affects the result a tiny bit. Not much, but these things add up. I did a heat soak test with my car so that I could be sure that it won’t explode on track, we did like 20-25 successive runs with drivetrain loss roll out, every single run was within 1HP at the crank, but the first run straight from the street was 7-8 wheel HP worse than the last one. I bet that if I unstrapped and strapped the car down again a bit differently I’d get slightly different WHP read out as well. Obviously such variability in WHP measurement is suboptimal when tuning the engine, because you can never be sure if the change you’ve made in the ECU took an effect on the engine performance or was it just a strap that loosened up a bit, gearbox oil that has slightly lower viscosity now because it has warmed up or combination of all.

Somebody told you that…. You have zero experience of that yourself. Now, obviously… People that have that kind of money are usually busy people and not 18 year old hooligans. But also… People that are not interrested in the tech, engineering, design, and the performance of supercars, would not go and buy one.
