Are there any bylaws that impact this? I’d personally be worried about theft or vandalism of my charger as it doesn’t lock to my car while charging (like some do). I can apparently insert a small cable lock in the handle while charging but haven’t found one that fits.
Clever, but that cable is still a bit of a tripping hazard, and could be even worse for people with disabilities.
What’d be even better is if the municipality allowed you to put that receptacle on the other side of the sidewalk. (Or if the municipality, utility or someone could put a full public, paid charger there, if there’s a concern with the property owner being able to put something there.)
Good idea, wonder if you could make a small channel in the edge between the footpath and your driveway and run a bit of conduit through there for the cable, you’re going to get some Karen complain as mentioned
Being in CA I can almost guarantee you’ll be facing a lawsuit at some point in the future. There are people who make a living off “tripping” or finding ADA non-compliance situations. Please be careful
In a city where off-street parking is often unavailable, this approach is remarkably common.

Why the hell is the plug on the driver’s side?
That’s a pretty funky paint job on the house across the street.

ARC fault has entered the chat
Only a matter of time before some punk comes along and destroys your setup just for fun. Sad to say…
Pretty sure that’s illegal here.
To be fair I have a neighbor who leaves a garden hose across the sidewalk all year and this is no worse.
