I’m looking at trading in our 2013 Kia soul to upgrade to a new car. We are a young mid 30s family with a.baby girl.
We are a single car owning household, live in a condo and the daily work commute would be approx 30-40kms.
Main things we are looking for.
– Room in the trunk for stroller
– Battery heating/management for cold weather
– around $55k max with all rebates/ect
– Room inside for baby seat and maaaaybe another child and extra baby seat down the road if we have another kid.
At the moment I’ve test driven a Kia Niro ev which was nice but not a whole lot bigger than our soul but we put a deposit down anyway just incase.
I’ve also got my eyes on the ev6 and vw id4 pro. For PHEVs we are thinking maybe a Sorento or Tuscon could work?
As someone who owns a Model Y I’d say go with either an ID4 or the Q4 if you are willing to pay the premium. The Mach E is okay but has its glitches and other first gen issues while the ID4/Q4 seem to be the most polished out of the gate.
We are in the US and have 2 small kiddos and ended up with the Sorento PHEV – mostly because we needed a car before this winter and the ID.4 has been impossible to find in AWD (one of my requirements). We also were nervous about range in the winter along with there being a large gap of charging infrastructure where we are currently. So we went with the Kia Sorento PHEV and really like it so far – have only had it about a week or so though as of now. I loved the way the ID.4 drove but the trunk space was on the smaller side imo – at least for a family of 4 w two small kiddos. Fine for day trips but longer weekend trips would be tight (we still have a deposit on one though; not sure if it will ever get here). I’ve also got my eye on the Solterra for our next upgrade when we do go all electric in the future but I’m waiting to see what happens/comes into the picture in the next few years.
Whichever one meets your needs and you like test driving most.
EV6 or ID4 would be my pick.

From thst list I like the ev6 the most.
Also skoda enyaq is nice if you are considering the id 4. Lots of space.
From your requirements anyone would do so test them all and see which one you like the most and is in budget.
Also consider a few of these go up in price with packs and whatnot
Depends on your needs.
PS. Also not all the info may be correct on the attached costs/details. I just went off what I could find online.
Is the BC scrap it rebate continuing in 2022?
The XC40 AWD costs the same as a RWD Audi? Take the Volvo!
100 biased response…Kia Niro SX
I own the 2019, routinely get 440+ KM range
Having had, and loved, a number of Subaru’s, my next EV will be the Solterra.
MachE if you can afford it.
Kona EV if you need budget version of EV that has everything.
I have Model 3. Would not get another Tesla.
You forgot the 5000$ federal rebate for the ID4. Not sure which else from the list are eligible.

Out of the vehicles listed, the ID4 is the obvious choice for your needs and budget.
Also, some of the vehicles (EV6, IONIC 5, Tesla) you listed do not qualify for the soon-to-end SCRAP-IT program.
