Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess is in hot water. He’s apparently facing a no-confidence vote after pressure from the automaker’s worker council over his comment about the need to go electric faster.

Setting the ship on fire because you don’t like the way the wind is blowing.
Hypothetically, if Diess is removed as CEO then would future ID cars be at risk of being canceled or would VW have to continue with them due to investment cost? So far the ID lineup (along with the F150 Lightning and Mini Countryman EV) are the only EVs that I’m looking forward to and it would suck if they end up getting further delayed or canceled.
it is difficult for an ICE company to transition to an EV company because of all the baggage it’ll have. all the while EV startups get market funding and get runaway success.
VW is #2 worldwide in EV sales by volume. Yeah Tesla is #1 but they’re a very limited brand. VW has so many sub brands. Once VW switches to all EV, they will have HUNDREDS of models to choose from, easily outpacing Teslas capacity. The switch just needs to happen sooner rather than later as GM Stellantis and BMW are all close behind. Green jobs are clearly the future – I’m not sure what this workers council is on.
That’s a problem a lot of companies have to deal with when it comes to having a board of directors. Especially when they don’t have vision and they’re tied to the old ways of working. The way Ford is doing it by having some of their big name cars come out has EV’s. It’ll make it easier for some consumers to make the transition from ICE to EVs. I still think VW should come out with an update beetle EV’s just like they did with the previous generation of ICE beetles.
There are so many jobs tied to ICE which are essentially going to be obsolete. Thats the problem they have to deal with and thats why the conversion to EV has been deliberately stifled for so many years.

No wonder so many Germans hate Tesla. They see EVs as a real threat
