Feels a bit lackluster. The only interesting and new info was the $30K crossover, but since the Bolt and Bolt EUV are already pretty close it isnt exactly that big of news. Now if they could bring to market a 7 seat SUV for $40K, that would be really interesting.
If Ford only plans to produce a total 150K Lightning F-150s by the end of 2024, IMO GM will not begin production of the Silverado until late 2022 and start shipping in 2023 and they won’t be making 150K a year in 2023 or 2024. Ford says they plan to make 160K Lightning trucks in 2025 and GM is behind them by more than a year.
One more thing. Tesla’s gigafactories are designed like a microchip by microchip designers, so their optimization criteria is way different than anyone. Tesla thinks of cars as electrons and factories as the microchip. They are trying to put Moore’s law into factory design.
I would like to see when all of their vehicles become 100% eletric. ⚡ That would be a worthy announcement. The Chevrolet Silverdo with 643 kilometres of range is not too bad, but they should aim for 800km. Tesla’s Cybertruck will have it, and even the 2024 Ram Electric Truck will have an option for it.
I love the competition with all the electric vehicles that’s starting. I’m still driving my 2011 Toyota Avalon and hope it can get me another 2 years without major issue so I have a choice between all these new EVs.
Why would you buy a $100k hummer with 300 miles of range when a Silverado EV gets 400 miles of range?
Sounds like a bucket list more than an actual plan.
Did cheerleaders with pom poms announce this?

None of what GM announced makes any kind of sense.
Weaselwords to prop up stock, IMO.
Starting today GM will not manufacture 150K EVs in total for sale in the US before the end of 2024.

It’s gonna be interesting to watch the next 10 years seeing as that basically every major automaker is aiming to be #1 in EV market share by 2030
